Léa Seydoux is one of the greatest French actresses working today. Her resume consists of a vast acting career, during which her role as Bond girl Madeleine Swann in Spectre (2015) and No Time to Die (2021) has gained international fame. Now, Léa Seydoux has nabbed another role to add to her resume, and this time, she will be seen staring opposite Adam Driver.

According to a recent article published by the French daily Le Monde, it was revealed that Seydoux will “soon” begin filming the Leos Carax upcoming project. The filmmaker is preparing for his next feature, following up 2021’s Annette. No major details have been revealed about this project so far. But all we know is that this project will mark the reunion of Carax and Driver.

Carax made his English-language directorial debut with a musical romantic drama film, Annette, starring Driver. The film opened at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, where Carax received the Best Director award. The auteur’s other film, titled It’s Not Me, is going to mark its premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It’s a  40-minute cine memoir about Carax’s work. While not much is known about the approach for the project, it does come with this mysterious synopsis that reads:

“For an exhibition that, in the end, never took place, the Pompidou Museum asked the filmmaker to reply, in pictures, to the question:

High On Films in collaboration with Avanté

Where are you at, Leos Carax?

He attempts an answer – full of questions.

About himself and “his” world:

I don’t know, but if I did, I’d reply that…”

Carax is noted for his poetic style and his tortured depictions of love. His first major work was Boy Meets Girl (1984), and his notable works include Les Amants du Pont-Neuf (1991), Holy Motors (2012), and Annette (2021).

While the details of his new film starring Lea Seydoux-Adam Driver are kept under wraps, it’s indeed an exciting pairing, and hopefully, some more news will slip on the Cannes premiere of Carax’s latest film.

Who is Léa Seydoux?

Léa Seydoux is a French actress prolific in both  French cinema and Hollywood. Her contribution to the cinematic world has been honored with various accolades, including five César Award nominations, two Lumières Awards, the Palme d’Or, a BAFTA Award nomination, and the Trophée Chopard Award.

Apart from being an established actress, she is also known for her work as a model. She has been showcased in Vogue Paris, American Vogue, L’Officiel, Another Magazine, and W magazine, among others.

Recently, during an interview, the actress discussed her approach to acting and emphasized that rather than seeing herself as an actor separate from her roles, she feels a deep connection to the characters she portrays. She said,

It’s funny: me, I don’t feel like I’m an actor. I’m not an actor. It’s just that I open up, I lend my body to a director, but at the same time, I’ve never felt I was an actor. It’s just me, it’s always me, and I’ve always felt that all the characters that I’ve played actually are me. I’m not in a thing where I’m like this actor, ‘I had to become this character.’ I don’t really have this thing. For me, what’s the most interesting––in my opinion; of course, it’s very subjective––is when I can see that the actor is giving something very personal. I can feel that; on the screen, you can feel when an actor is very open, and this is what also, as a viewer, I want to see. I want to see someone just there and very ‘real,’ in a way. Like, too-performative––when there is too much performance––it’s not the thing that will touch me the most.

Given Seydoux’s philosophy on acting, it will be intriguing to witness how she embodies her character under Carax’s direction in their upcoming film.
