Kevin Maher Times (UK) A nifty dramatic premise is squandered with camp inconsequence in this eccentric black comedy... Rated: 2/5 Nov 4, 2022 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian Kier, as ever, delivers a spoonful of black-comic menace and Hayman does an honest job. But there’s something treacly about it. Rated: 2/5 Nov 1, 2022 Full Review Peter Debruge Variety [It] could have been a sly, “Sleuth”-style two-hander. But the tonally uneven movie isn’t prepared for its own premise... Aug 9, 2022 Full Review Cris Kennedy The Canberra Times (Australia) While the screenplay could be punchier, this is a strong two-hander between performers of the stature of Hayman and Kier. Rated: 3/5 May 2, 2023 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz A kind of a cross between Rear Window, Grumpy Old Men and Fright Night, My Neighbour Adolf is a surprisingly charming and gripping black comedy. Rated: 4/5 Apr 28, 2023 Full Review Kat Halstead Common Sense Media A spirited score adds a layer of eccentricity beyond the acting and peculiar screenplay, and moments of humor keep the tone lighter than its subject matter might usually allow. Giorgio G An extraordinary, slightly comic, drama, with two actors, David Hayman and Udo Kier, at their very best. The movie is not as funny as the trailer might suggest, but it is surely worth watching with a story that is captivating and profound. There have been already plenty of movies where somebody suspects their neighbor to be Adolf himself or some other Nazi asshole, but this movie here is different and somehow even heartwarming. I was surprised and deeply touched. 7/10 points. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/11/23 Full Review R 9 'My Neighbor Adolf' - a rather average flick. I was anticipating something more comedic and more dramatic, but in the end it is neither one nor the other. it holds a decent premise, while leads David Hayman and Udo Kier give good performances, but there isn't much else worth noting unfortunately. This 2022 film is, in my eyes of course, limply paced and doesn't have nearly enough meat on the story for it to be suitably interesting. 6/10 imo. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/19/23 Full Review Peter W Overall, My Neighbour Adolf is a delightful feature that contains drama, mystery and, to my surprise, some doses of comedy. Once the mystery is introduced, it's impossible not to feel invested and eager to know the outcome of the compelling story and the consequences for both leading characters. Performances here are excellent, and David Hayman and Udo Kier's bouncing off one another is terrific to see. Both leads, so different to each other, bring many characteristics to life while sharing a slowly earnt, convincing friendship. I felt various emotions while viewing, making this film highly pleasing and ultimately worthwhile. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/29/23 Full Review Mark P A little gem, good actors and script, very watchable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/26/23 Full Review Cindy T My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this film. This dark comedy was funny and touching and great acting by the two veteran actors. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review ruth e I saw this last night and loved every minute. The acting was superb. I laughed, I cried and I was drawn to memories of my grandparents. What a brilliant and unique approach and script on the Holocaust and that brutal regimes survivours. I highly recommend going to see this.
