Microphone not working only in the game
First off, I know there are several threads on the same issue, I spent hours going through them and trying things before deciding to post here.

So, as the title says - the microphone does not work only in the game, but it does work everywhere else (e.g. Discord, Google Meet…). I'm using Windows 11. In my Sound settings (Control Panel > Sound > Recording) my microphone is the only enabled device. Therefore, it is also the Default Device and Default Communications Device. Someone suggested to remove "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device checkbox" - tried that. Doesn't work with it unchecked, doesn't work with it checked. My Microphone privacy settings are set correctly - Microphone access is on, apps are allowed to access it, Helldivers 2 is under "Let desktop apps access your microphone", that is also On.

About the mic: I'm playing on a laptop, it's a built in microphone.

How I try it in game: I use push-to-talk. That way I see the little "sound" icon appear next to my name when I'm holding the button. Even though the icon appears, nobody else in the squad can hear me and the icon does not appear on their side. If I set the open mic setting, the sound icon never appears.

So I'm completely lost. I've exhausted ideas what can I change on the Windows side. There is not much to change in the game. The fact that the microphone works first try in every other app I test it in is confusing. Why not in the game?

Hi! I have a similar problem. I use headphones from Steelseries Arctic 7 microphones and a separate hyperx cloudcast microphone, the microphone on the headphones is turned off, only hyperx is turned on in Windows, but still does not work in the game.

bump, same issue and there's plenty of threads about it but no fix found

I've tried a few more things even though I know they are not necessary. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the microphone device driver, I tried disabling it and re-enabling it, clearing Helldivers 2 settings and re-initializing the game. Nothing works.

One difference I noticed between a laptop that doesn't have working mic in Helldivers 2 and a laptop that works normally is that on the laptop that doesn't work, Helldivers 2 never actually uses the input device. In Windows Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone you can see "Currently in use" written right under the app that is using it. This works normally with every app that I try except for Helldivers 2. So it seems that the game doesn't even try to use the mic.
