“I love working with children in a family-oriented approach, and helping them all have a positive and fun dental experience.”

joelOH…IO! I’m a proud Buckeye that grew up in Westerville, Ohio. My friends and patients describe me as a passionate kid’s dentist that is enthusiastic and entertaining. My training is grounded in dental hygiene practices. I believe every dental appointment is an opportunity for us to educate about individualized dental hygiene exercises and dietary counseling. Prevention is key, and we enjoy employing new and innovative techniques to foster a strong rapport with all children. We understand dentistry can be scary. Westerville Pediatric Dental is all about making healthy smiles in a fun environment.

I graduated from Worthington Christian High School in 2005, and then proceeded on a comprehensive path of Dentistry. I started my training in the Dental Hygiene Program for four years at The Ohio State University where I met my wife, Trisha. We are Dental School sweethearts! Of course, I continued as a Buckeye where I graduated with honors, Magna Cum Laude. After four more years of Dental School, my education was not yet complete; I traveled to Nebraska to expand my abilities to care for infants, children and adolescents with special heath care needs at the University of Nebraska at the Omaha Children’s Hospital and Medical Center.

Residency provided me with a unique and exciting opportunity to specialize in care for children. I received extensive specialized training working alongside world-renowned faculty encompassing growth and development, behavior management, preventive care, restorative and esthetic dentistry, orthodontics, child psychology, treatment of traumatic injuries and dental emergencies, drinkable sedation dentistry, general anesthesia, and care for children with special needs. During this time, I served as the lead dentist at the Bone Metabolism Clinic for children diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bone Disease) and Dentinogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Teeth Disease).

A Personal Story about Dental Trauma:

“Dental trauma never comes at a good time, but I will be there for you and your family. I understand the position you are in.”

The occurrence of bumps, bruises, and broken teeth are inevitable in a family consisting of nine children, especially when ornery and energetic red heads are involved. For example, one such mishap occurred when an older sibling was fooling around and clashed my front tooth into my younger brother’s forehead. This resulted in tears, an injured permanent tooth, and a defining memory. This embedded in me a subconscious desire to pursue dentistry. I was certain my tooth would not survive the accident, which would have left an enormous space in the front of my mouth forever. However, my oldest brother, a pediatric dentist, reassured me that the tooth was intact, and that it had a high chance of survival with proper dental care. I recall the trust I had in my brother’s expertise and the ease at which I felt upon receiving it. Nearly two decades later, this left in indelible impact on me. It was this experience that has led me to where I am today to become a pediatric dentist.

On the personal side, I’m blessed with a beautiful and supportive wife, Trisha, who is also a general dentist. We are excited to rejoin the community of Westerville. Away from the office, we enjoy spending time with our family and friends, and weight lifting and exercising. We share laughter in the kitchen as we consider ourselves, “foodies.” I am happy to be practicing dentistry in The Buckeye Nation!

I look forward to meeting you and your family.
