Do I need to buy the ticket from osaka to tokyo in advance given there are so many trains a day?
If i do buy it in advance, is it possible to change the time on the day and does this need to be done at the JR office or can i do this on the app?

142 helpful votes You can purchase tickets just before boarding. There’s frequent train service between the two cities.
If you need oversized luggage seats it would be better to book in advance.
Also if you would like to sit together with your family members, you might not be possible to sit in the same car if you leave it to the last minute.
ok thanks. Are the tickets flexible in that I can change to another train before departure?
You can change the time, date and seat once for free using the ticket machine or the ticket counter. If it's the 2nd time, you need to pay cancel fee, then make a reservation again.
