Editorial Reviews

Review

""She has produced a uniquely entertaining children's book called It's About a Little Bird. This book sat in my pile to review, and I loved it even before I noticed the byline that reads, "Story and pictures by Jessica Lange." The artwork and story are bright, fresh and different. Even my 7-year-old twins fell hard for this book the girls, the grandma, the farm and the bird. They ask for it every night."" - Parents.com

""the perfect bedtime story for little kids." " -
E! Online

""a lovely tale that's also beautiful to look at" " -
Huff Post Parents

"The artwork in this singularly beautiful children's book, featuring photos hand-tinted by the American Horror Story star, will captivate kids as will the tale of two girls who learn the family story behind an old birdcage." -

This was a Christmas gift for my granddaughter who loves to read. This book was so beautiful, the art work was amazing and the story was so sweet, she probably needed help with some of the bigger words , she is 6 years old but a great little reader. I hope to hear of more books by Mrs.Lange in the furture..

I heard Jessica Lange talking about this book on TV, and I had to have it. I bought it for my young granddaughter for Christmas, and I look forward to sharing it with her. I love good children's literature; the illustrations are beautiful, also. Even though I am a retired Elementary Media Specialist, I will never lose my interest in sharing good children's literature, whether it is my grandchildren or the lovely children in my neighborhood. Books are so important in developing a child's character - even if it is a silly book, sometimes that just entertains them. However, this book imparts a special message to children - would that all children would hear this story.

Bought it for my wife to share with our daughter. My wife is a huge Jessica Lange fan and had heard about this book. She seemed to want it pretty bad so I bought it as an early Valentines day gift for her to share with our daughter and they both enjoyed it thoroughly. At first she thought it was going to be long but she said it was an easy read and a great book to share. She loved it.!

Lovely book. Very enjoyable. I'm excited to give this book as a gift to a relative for both the Paris connection and the sweet story.

loved two things in contrast to what is generally available:
the tinted photos yes, gave it a mystical or fantasy tone but also conveyed that it was a true story about real people and bird.

and the emphasis on what we do with our lives, ie sing our song, rather than cliches about where the dead bird or loved people are today.

A beautiful book!! Kept my 6 year old, who also loves adventures and often makes up his own entertained with the story and the pictures were fun for him to look at. Ms. Lange should write more childrens books. 5* is not enough for this. Perfect for any Jessica Lange fan and a perfect childrens book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely Story

I bought this book for my best friend's little girl. I loved the message that Jessica Lange put forth in this
book about life and death and how we choose to view it. Life goes on after death and we should continue singing.
I also loved the way she hand painted the black and white pictures of her granddaughters. This is a lovely book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous book, beautifully produced, lovely story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 6, 2013
First of all, the quality and production of the book is excellent. It's beautifully put together, from the quality of the paper, to the chosen fonts, the colors, the cover design and the layout of the pictures inside.

It's a huge talent for someone to be able to take such great photographs and hand-tint them with photo oils so expertly -- and that is one of the really enjoyable aspects of this book...looking at the detail in these gorgeous photographs.

As for the story itself, it's a personal (and true) story originally intended as a gift from Lange to her granddaughters (the girls featured in the photos). It was clearly a very personal gift and a retelling of past experiences from one generation to the next, which now many more can enjoy.

The only thing I would caution is that I feel the story is most appropriate for an older child, certainly at least 8 or 9 years of age, as it does briefly deal with some slightly mature themes (a mention of death, for example) and some aspects would definitely go right over the head of a younger child.

A child of eight or nine would also appreciate the photographs more than a younger child would.

All in all, very happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend.
