We’re leading the way across almost every part of the diamond pipeline, from exploration and mining to retail and research.

Who We Are

We’re the world’s leading diamond company, owned 85 per cent by Anglo American and 15 per cent by the Government of the Republic of Botswana. We’re powered by over 20,000 people, working in 28 countries across the world, including the countries we recover diamonds from – Botswana, Canada, South Africa and Namibia. But no matter where we are, or what we’re doing, we all have the same purpose – to make life brilliant.

What We Do

We’re involved in almost every part of the diamond pipeline. That means upstream operations like exploration and mining, midstream operations like sales and technology, downstream consumer-facing retail, and innovative research that extends far beyond the traditional diamond pipeline.

We’re committed to driving our industry forwards in everything we do – working to create a brighter future for our people, our planet and the communities around us.

Our Structure at a Glance

Across the Diamond Pipeline: Our Upstream Operations

Our upstream operations allow us to recover diamonds from some of the world’s most inaccessible places. They include global exploration – using innovative technology to search for diamond deposits – and mining.

We mine for rough diamonds in Botswana, Canada, South Africa and Namibia. In Botswana, we mine under the name Debswana – our 50/50 joint partnership with the people of Botswana. And in Namibia, we work in a 50/50 joint partnership with the people as Namdeb Holdings – recovering rough diamonds offshore through Debmarine Namibia and on land through Namdeb.

Across the Diamond Pipeline: Our Midstream Operations

Our midstream operations span everything from trading rough diamonds to research, technology and education. We sell around 90 per cent of our rough diamonds to contracted buyers known as Sightholders and Accredited Buyers. We do this through our Global Sightholder Sales and Auctions, as well as through DTC Botswana, which sells diamonds recovered from our Debswana operations, and NDTC, which sells diamonds recovered from our Namdeb Holdings operations. We sell the remaining 10 per cent of our rough diamonds through online auctions, where we are world leaders.

We’re also using our experience, knowledge and unique position to help push the diamond industry forwards. This includes testing and grading diamonds, as well as providing education through the De Beers Group Institute of Diamonds, where we are also leaders in developing mining, sorting and detection technology.

Across the Diamond Pipeline: Our Downstream Operations

We sell spectacular diamond jewellery through three brands – De Beers Jewellers, De Beers Forevermark and Libert'aime by De Beers Forevermark.

De Beers Jewellers shares its passion for diamonds with its clients, helping them find a diamond that is unique to them. Forever inspired by diamonds as nature’s works of art, De Beers Jewellers continues to innovate by combining timeless elegance with modern style.

Forevermark diamonds are selected to meet our high standards of beauty, rarity and responsible sourcing. Less than one percent of diamonds are eligible to become a Forevermark diamond, and each comes with an inscription ensuring it is a natural diamond selected for beauty and Integrity. Libert’aime by De Beers Forevermark is an exciting new retail concept, celebrating the spirit of a new generation of women and exclusively available in China.

Beyond the Natural Diamond Pipeline

We look beyond the conventional to make diamond production smarter. That’s why we created Element Six – a world leader in the design, development and production of laboratory-grown diamond technology.

Our laboratory-grown diamonds are used to improve the efficiency, performance and reliability of industrial tools, electronics and technology.

They’re also used to create modern jewellery that’s available at an accessible price.
