Pacific Chorale will honor Artistic Director Emeritus John Alexander during its Spring Gala on June 1, 2024.

Alexander served as Artistic Director and Conductor for the organization between 1972 and 2017 and will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. Throughout his career, Alexander has worked with such organizations as Pacific Symphony, Pasadena Symphony, Musica Angelica, and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. He holds a title of Professor Emeritus at California State University, Fullerton, and has won numerous awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Choral Directors Association, Western Division (2016); the “Michael Korn Founders Award for Development of the Professional Choral Art” from Chorus America (2008); The “Distinguished Faculty Member” award from California State University, Fullerton (2006); among others.

“John Alexander is a choral legend whose impact spans the globe,” said Pacific Chorale Board Chair Craig Springer in an official press release. “He is also an indelible part of Pacific Chorale. During the 45 years he served the choir, which remains among the longest runs in American choral history, John shaped its artistry and essence, transforming it into the remarkable cultural beacon it is today.”

The showcase will feature works by Bernstein, Sarah Kirkland Snider, and the world premiere of Frank Ticheli’s “Listen to the Silence.”

The event kicks off at 4 p.m. local time. Proceeds from the gala, which will celebrate his 80th birthday, will go toward Pacific Chorale performances and other outreach activities.
