Again another tv series including native american "Justice revenge", posing same BS narrative paralelling jewish hardship and persecution such as for native americans in 19th century in such a tortious way just to ingratiate with the possible new big rulers of their own countries (Natives). Big Mess just to regret after october 2023 when they had been hitted to their roots (in the worst inhuman way). This iS a clear example why mean and hostile attacks against certain faiths are not the way to behave. Call It karma or whatever. Could have been a great serie!

It has all the makings of a good detective series, with great landscapes and settings, and a solid enough lead performance from AM. Unfortunately, it dithers and meanders around intricately measured mysteries and key events to its detriment, feeling sluggish and confused as a result, and never having enough energy to reach the peaks it really should. If there ends up being a second series, I won't be watching

How does this have decent ratings? It watches like a Hallmark movie. Not even sure the acting would cut it there

A very "classy" television series that doesn't follow the usual over the top cop action and investigation sytle so many detective stories tend to rely on -- which might cause some to lose interest. But if you give this series a chance, you'll see some very good acting, First Nations actors playing REAL PEOPLE, and a chief inspector who struggles with his own personal past trauma and who doesn't always get it right the first time, but who is caring, compassionate, and wants to help people. No big guns or flaming car chases, no beautiful young cops or lawyers in love, just good plots, good writing, good direction, wonderful location and cinematography along with getting to see Tantoo Cardinal, Alfred Molina, Elle-Maija Tailfeathers. What could be better?

Since the invention of film there have only been five castings that were rated perfect, absolutely flawless. The casting of Alfred Molina as Chief Inspector Gamache left them all behind. He brings out everything readers loved about the literary version: intelligence, compassion, bravery, along with his all-too human stumblings. I only hope some executive board somewhere decides to bring this series back since we all deserve more time with Molina's Gamache.

The first 15 minutes sets the tone. Indigenous people good, holy, selfless, victims, strong, righteous, cool, wonderful. White men brutal oppressors. Cops stupid callous don't care about indigenous people. Black men sensitive, intelligent, passionate, emotional, sensible / white women simultaneously insane, weak, sadistic, selfish, cruel narcissistic, petty (skips her daughter's solo song at a concert until the last moment then bickers shamelessly while the girl sings and all the sensible and civilized people of color in the audience look on aghast--then exclaims that the worst mistake she ever made was marrying her loser husband and "giving birth to THAT!"--and then gets her comeuppance, which we're supposed to applaud, by being murdered, etc etc. And the slightly of-color cop (with a plain unadorned frowsy/slightly-butchy/no-make-up-nor-styled-hair-and-therefore-genuine wife) is both a saint and also someone correctly carrying a huge bag of guilt while trying to atone for all the ills of men. Gaaaaaaaah. So much more along these same line. So heavy-handed. So tedious.
