Golf National Tournament Recap

Bowling Green State University Men's Club Golf Team was awarded the opportunity to play in the NCCGA National Tournament in Flowood, MS.

The team completed their regular season and finished in 3rd place, and on the podium of all three tournaments they attended. This resulted in the team earning enough points to receive a bid to the National Tournament.

Even though The Falcons did not win a tournament, the consistently low scores the team maintained at every tournament is what provided them with a chance to receive a national bid.

Overall, the team placed 4th, shooting a +21 741 two-day score. The tournament took five players from each team with the highest scores to determine team scores.

BGSU also had two All-Tournament Team selections which were Sophomore, Maxwell Weaver, who finished 3rd with a two-day score of -1 (73/70), and Junior, Carter Frey, who finished 7th with a two-day score of +2 (74/72).

The rest of the team finished as such:

Senior, Alec Matej T25 +7 (77/74)
Senior, Harrison Hall T25 +7 (77/74)
Sophomore, Ryan Klausing +7 (78/73)
Junior, Brady Jacobs +9 (78/75)
Sophomore, Jack Gregory +9 (77/76)
Senior, Nathan Fousek T86 (84/83)

The Falcons lost four senior members of the team last season which forced other team members to step into more valuable roles.

"We learned that, as much as it is the individual score that goes in the book, how you can mesh as a team is what matter most," Sophomore, Maxwell Weaver, stated.

The experience of traveling to the NCCGA National Tournament and various other tournaments throughout the season helped bring the team together and to grow closer.

"If there was any advice I could give to a younger payer is to just enjoy every day you get to compete in the game of golf," said Weaver.

One big tradition that BGSU Men's Club Golf team holds near to their hearts is eating at a local restaurant wherever they travel to.

"No matter where we are in the country, you will find us enjoying the all you can eat chips and salsa and unique atmosphere," Weaver stated.
