Biography

Having made his Serie A début with Lazio, defender Mauro Tassotti went on to make 429 League appearances, and score eight goals, for A. C. Milan over a 17-year period. He won 17 major trophies with Milan, including five Serie A titles in 1988, 1992-94 and 1996. He also won the European Cup/UEFA Champions League in 1989-90 and 1994, the Italian Super Cup in 1988, 1992-94, the UEFA Super Cup in 1989-90, 1994 and the Intercontinental Cup in 1989 and 1990,

Despite his success at club level, Tassotti won just seven senior international caps between 1992-94. He played in two matches at the FIFA World Cup in the United States in 1994, having previously represented Italy at the 1988 Olympics. He was captain of his country at the Seoul Games, and played every minute of every match, a record achieved also by goalkeeper Stefano Tacconi.

Tassotti retired in 1997 but remained at Milan in various capacities, as youth team coach, assistant manager, caretaker manager and talent scout. He left the club in 2016 to become assistant coach to the Ukranian national team.
