Dr. Shibuyakko: Travel to Japan 2024 Prescription Meds Help

I have read a bunch of information on bringing Prescription Meds into Japan.

I am asking if one needs to bring the following for each Prescription (that is not a Narcotic and meets the quantity requirements) into Japan.

Is below a suggestion or a requirement? From the "Guide to Bringing Medicines Into Japan"

"How to prepare permitted medicine to bring with you?

A copy of the prescription and a doctor’s note of explanation should accompany the medication

when brought with you to Japan.

Medication should be stored in the original bottle – do not store in an unmarked container or

bottle labeled for a separate medication."

@Dr S

If you see this thread... for an update, please check DMs in Notification.

OFF-topic - sorry, MrSanRamon, for interrupting your thread

One thing Dr S might need to know is how long you are in Japan - less than 30 days? or more?

You just need to do what the requirement is from the official site that you copied in your question. I don't see what the question is? Keep the meds in their original packaging - make sure you have your perscription / drs note with you. and that none are on the prohibited list

I don't know where you got the information you posted. But I know it didn't come from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan. My guess is you got it from an embassy site or similar. When you deal with medication issues, go only by what MHLW says.

When bringing in medications that are allowed, you do NOT need a prescription or doctor's note. Medications do not have to be in the original Rx bottle, either. They can be in a pill case or even in a ziplock bag. This information came straight from the MHLW when I corresponded with them. Now to the OP's meds.

All of your medications are allowed up to 30 days supply with NO paperwork. You have no issues bringing them in. Again, you can use a pill case or ziplockbags.

Have a great trip.
