We had high expectations prior to eating here since we heard about their Michelin awards and there were Tim Ho Wan restaurants in our country. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed when we finally ate there. In terms of taste, their food, mainly their dumplings were good but they were comparable to the other dumpling restaurants that we ate in HK that were more reasonably priced. Upon ordering, the menu stated that we're required to order tea from them aside from our food. Maybe it's our fault that we didn't read the menu properly so what we did was we ordered tea for each person. When two kettle pots arrived at our table, we realized that we read the menu wrong. Needless to say, we felt that we wasted money since we weren't able to finish all the tea that we ordered and we could have used that money for other beverage choices. Overall, I would still recommend eating here but just manage expectations.

The staff were unbelievably rude. First after filling in the list and sitting there with it held up, we were ignored for some time . Then one waitress took it off me and started talking in Chinese. A lady at another table had to translate. We HAD to order tea, despite not drinking tea and having ordered a diet cake and a cream soda. She barked no soft drinks only water. A pretend Michelin starred establishment with no soft drinks??? So we ordered 2 waters and a pot of tea that we didn't want. Then the food started to arrive. The har gaw came first. No soya sauce and no staff to ask as it was a dump and run scenario. The list came back with the till roll attached to it. We noted the table next to us had theirs as well and when they tried to pay the waitress barked at them to pay at the till. The most greasiest spring rolls tuned up next with a tiny amount of dipping sauce. Some time later came the sui mai, char sui buns which were sickly sweet and disgusting. Finally the rice noodles shrimp rolls and with itshevwas carrying the bottle of soya sauce si we asked for some in the dish for the other dim sum. The soya sauce made the already cold rice rolls even colder. Then as we were eating, another waitress asked for us to pay immediately obviously fearing we were going to leg it. So, we had to down chopsticks and get out the cash to pay. We left more than we ate. It was the most rushed and rude service (4 hours until closing), but it seemed it was the staff time to eat and no damn customers were going to interrupt that!!!! Absolute appaling service and stupid rule about forcing us to order the tea, which was left undrunk. The bill was 400 HK dollars, so not cheap. Really spoiled our afternoon.

Dining at Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong was a culinary journey through the world of dim sum. The restaurant’s commitment to traditional techniques and quality ingredients was evident in every bite. The menu offered a delightful array of dim sum classics, each a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Hong Kong. The casual and bustling ambiance created an authentic atmosphere for savoring each dish. The staff’s efficiency in service added to the overall experience. Tim Ho Wan is not just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of dim sum culture and a must-visit for food enthusiasts in Hong Kong.

I learnt about this restaurant from a couple of tourist guides which mentioned a Michelin star. We expected to find some good food in a little authentic restaurant but we were hugely disappointed. As soon as we arrived we were hurried to order quickly because the kitchen was closing soon. We ordered many different dishes, some of them were barely acceptable while some others were so terrible that we left them in our plates. The waiters were unacceptably rude and service was appalling. The location is dull and unattractive. I cannot believe that someone from Michelin might have had a meal here and accepted to link their name to such a terrible restaurant.

We came to this restaurant because it was included in the Michelin guide. The restaurant closes at 9 and we arrived at 8:10 and have been pressured to order in 5 minutes. None of the workers spoke English, so when they brought the food and we asked wether the rice rolls were pork or beef they were not able to tell us. The food tasted bad or had no taste and we left most of the food. When we asked them for the two bottles of water we had ordered and never arrived, they checked if we paid for it in front of our eyes (very insulting). All in all the food was the worst we ate in Asia (or maybe ever) and the service was even worse as the waiters were extremely rude and hurried us to leave. We left the restaurant at 8:40 as they had already started to take our plates away and cleaning.

The baked BBQ pork buns (char siu bolo bao) were so good! Light crispy outside, pillowy fluffy bun, good amount of char siu. The other dim sum was nothing special. The deep fried dough sticks were overdone and were like crispy chips - skip this. Recommend just doing take-out for the baked BBQ pork buns and going somewhere else for dim sum.

Food were fantastic but the service was appalling. First we were not allowed to enter nor get a table unless our friends all arrived, party complete. We went at 2pm to avoid the lunch crowd so it wasn't busy. While we were still waiting for 1 more dish to arrive, staff asked if we want to order anything else as she was trying to tell us if we are not going to order more, expected to leave! We informed her that we were still waiting for 1 more order, but she denied and said all of our orders had arrived. We explained 1 more dish did NOT arrive. Finally another staff went to get that remaining dish. After 5 mins, the staff came back and asked 'are you done? Are you leaving now? ' My friends and I have never ever felt so mistreated by a staff, telling us to leave the moment we finished eating! Furthermore the bill was in Chinese which we can't read nor understand, luckily we had Google translate. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS RESTAURANT EVER AGAIN. So disappointed.

Don’t like the corporate line structure! The food was nice and average 4* but the first thing that meet me was a controlling non customer focused message of if the table is not here all at once you can’t get a table. You think that improves your profit but it actually does opposite by people leaving or get the impression you only think about profit!

For pick up I had to wait 30 minutes for only 9 pork buns. It was not during rush hour. The waitresses were rude. It’s a shame considering how the food good but the service is absolutely horrible. I regret going. Do not recommend.

From the outside, it looks like packing 100 people into 300sq ft space. The servers are rude and the food quality is not very good. Not a very good place for children. I guess this place would be better if you do takeaway.

Food is ok. The attraction is the price. Really Cheap. The seating is the big turnoff. So small and uncivilised. We took our food to go and ate it by the fountains in front of Exchange. Square.

Heard that the original main store in Sham Shui Po was good but never tried. Tried twice of the branch restaurant at IFC but was never impressed. Prices were relatively cheap for dim sum at such a prime Central location but if one can afford to travel a bit outside, many restaurants offer special priced dim sum at similar prices if not cheaper. Quality of dim sum was sub-par if not inferior. Rice of the minced pork on steamed rice was dry & hard & tasted very blank. Shrimp dumplings & steamed rice rolls with pig’s liver were ok & that’s it. Fast food style services & catering environment. Fairly disappointing.

Had a decent lunch here. Little space of course, but we were treated well and got a bit of extra space on the corner of a table. Everything was OK, but nothing really stood out. Felt a bit like a dim sum factory.

Central
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
