Yazoo – In Your Room

The 5.1 Mixes of these 2 iconic albums are incredible. When played on the right eqipment, they offer a new adventure into Yazoo's World. Why these surround mixes aren't more popular is completely beyond me. They aren't available on streaming and the sound is head and shoulders above any version you'll ever hear.

I absolutely LOVE this box.
Maybe for a collector it's not much new, but as a compilation of their works and more it's amazing.
Also, very interesting to explore the 5.1 mixes, not as to compare it with the original mixes, but for a different experience of the songs you know and love.

Well, by now you probably know, 'In Your Room' is nothing exclusive of three jewel cases poorly squeezed into a thin cardboard flimsy. Two of this pompously announced remaster package are exquisitely remastered albums while box no.3 is a double disc of audio/video goodies scrapped together, sort of a rarities case (as if Yazoo actually had any). Hardly there are b-sides included if you count 'State Farm', 'Situation' (before it became a massive hit on its own) and 'The Other Side Of Love' which on the other hand is a non-album A-side single (coupled together with 'Ode To Boy'), probably released sometime between 'Upstairs At Eric's' and 'You & Me Both'.

The music itself is no longer of discussion interest for Yazoo delivered some damn good tunes but the way this conceptual package is delivered sadly gives Mute no proper credits for it seems like a lazy cashed cow. The worst example in this is the DVD - while it contains the tiny anthology of Yazoo's promotional videos and currently shot sympathetic retro-movie discussing the nature of their music with other contributors' of the time delivering additional information of interest to die-hard fans, the rest is mercilessly filled up with repetitive playback material - while most of it concerns TOTP performances, probably the most unpleasant surprise might be once you discover there is NO 'original' promo shot for 'Situation'; in fact the video credited as the 'original' is a rather dull caleidoscopic animation to accompany the 1990 remix version (which in that (dis)respect is featured twice on the disc - the other version being a 'documentary' collage of streetlife mixed in with dance movements).

All in all, if you insist, 'In Your Room' will undoubtedly be a proud counterpart to your vast collection, in some other situation you might consider the fact you probably haven't missed much from what you already collected on Yazoo's behalf.
