Biografías de artistas

Paris-based duo Jupiter play a sleek, vibrant form of neo-disco and electro-funk, placing equal emphasis on glittery, neon-streaked dance grooves as well as emotional songwriting. Forming near the end of the 2000s, the group caught the attention of several music blogs and released music through the tastemaking French dance label Kitsuné Music, in addition to remixing songs by Two Door Cinema Club, Metronomy, Sébastien Tellier, and others. The pair made their full-length debut with the bright, choppy 2012 release Juicy Lucy before refining their sound with 2015's more sophisticated follow-up, Bandana Republic.

Amélie de Bosredon met Quarles Baseden at a party in London; the two bonded as the DJ played Junior's 1982 hit "Mama Used to Say," which otherwise cleared the floor. The duo began making music as Jupiter, with Amélie's sweet, slightly wistful vocals taking lead over giddy synths and electro-disco beats. They remixed Anoraak's 2008 single "Nightdrive with You" and released their debut single, "Starlighter," on Endless Summer Recordings in 2009. Vox Populi followed in 2010, and the pair's cover of "Mama Used to Say" appeared on compilations issued by Kitsuné Music and Hed Kandi later that year. Kitsuné then released Jupiter's 2011 single "Saké," as well as their remix of "Kass Limon" by zouk legends Kassav'. The duo were featured on Bottin's 2012 single "Sage Comme un Image," released by Z Records. Jupiter's debut album, Juicy Lucy, was issued by Grand Blanc in 2012, and Juicy Remixes appeared in 2013. The pair released their second album, Bandana Republic, in 2015. While their activity appeared to slow down, Jupiter returned in 2020 with Hey There, a collection of rarities, remixes, and previously unreleased material. ~ Paul Simpson
