About
Luxembourg Gardens is a charming oasis in the heart of Paris, loved by both locals and travelers alike. With 55 acres of manicured gardens, it's the perfect place to unwind and soak up the Parisian atmosphere. You can admire the beautifully arranged flower beds, towering trees, and the grand Luxembourg Palace which overlooks the gardens. In the summer, the park is great for picnics and family outings. Be sure to check out the pétanque (lawn bowling) and chess areas, too. To learn more about the park's rich history, consider joining a walking tour of the gardens. – Tripadvisor

- Jonathan PGlasgow, United Kingdom81 contributionsBeautiful garden for familiesA lovely and historic garden close to the centre of Paris. Sailing the little boats in the central fountain is a children’s pastime that has been happening for a century. The Medici fountain and the Greek Actor are just some of the sculpture highlights. Shady trees for summer days!Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 June 2023
- Traveller20175Arizona533 contributionsNice tranquil gardens amidst the bustling Paris CityReally nice garden! We visited the Pantheon and later walked to the gardens. It is close by. It is free to enter. There are chairs surrounding the pondds inside and it is really nice to sit there. Walking along the gardens is cool too and you can easily spend an two hours, strolling and admiring the flowers and sculptures in the garden and walking around the small ponds, and take pics. It will be a great place to have a picnic in too.Visited April 2023Written 16 June 2023
- Jason JIrvine, California10 contributionsBeautiful garden (park) with so many statuesMy wife and I went there 7 times on this trip. The garden was kept very well, beautiful plants and wonderful old trees all around. The park is peppered by beautiful statues. Many places to sit and just enjoy the scenery. Loved that place.Visited May 2023Written 18 June 2023
- Cagsd81 contributionsBeautiful gardens with views of lovely palaceThese are gorgeous gardens to stroll round or have a picnic in. There are benches everywhere, shaded areas, a wooded area, and a little cafe. No dogs are allowed. it was a really tranquil oasis in the heart of such a busy and noisy city. The Palace is beautiful but it's not open to the public.Visited June 2023Written 4 July 2023
- Michelle PSanta Barbara, California82 contributionsMy happy place!Beautiful gardens with chairs available to read, sunbathe, people watch. So much going on. Joggers, Tai chi, chess, tennis, basketball, pony rides and little sail boats for the kids, plus restaurants. Fountains and sculptures are amazing. I returned there many times during our stay.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 22 July 2023
- RYOKOCalifornia12 contributionsParisian lifeYou get a glimpse into the life of the Parisian intellectual and well to do crowd. Gorgeous gardens, surrounded by several great neighborhoods (St Michel, Pantheon, St Germain etc.). Come relatively early, bring a book, get a chair, relax and look at people. If you have kids you can rent toy boats to play with on the "bassin". The playground is the most sophisticated I've ever seen. They charge a small fee.Visited August 2022Written 25 July 2023
- unclelouieNew Ulm, Minnesota1,326 contributionsEnjoy your walk through this lovely gardenAfter a few visits to Paris we finally made it to the Luxembourg Garden. It has something for everyone. To be sure there are trees and gardens galore but it also has sporting possibilities, statues, a pond for rented mini boats for kids, and a palace which is next to the garden. We walked and also sat and watched others enjoying the garden.Visited June 2023Written 6 August 2023

3/24/24 - After lots of sitting the previous day due to long flights and lots of weather delays, we got a few hours sleep and decided we needed to get outside and walk. It was a very cool (for us Floridians) day but it was partly sunny. We walked from our hotel to the gardens and spent about another 2 hours leisurely walking around this enormous area. Spring was showing a there were many more blooms on trees and flowering plants in the ground than we had anticipated. We watched families playing on fun looking area set aside, and we believe a fee for its use. Others were sailing little boats rented from a vendor on the little fountain/pond area. The wind did pick up and we left as it seemed that rain was threatening again. However, the outing was exactly what we needed to refresh our spirits and get some exercise as well.

These huge public gardens are located in front of the Luxembourg palace. There are sculptures, fountains and manicured hedges. They are much less crowded than the Tuileries gardens near the Louvre, and I found the Luxembourg gardens even more beautiful, too.

For the umpteenth time, I had such a lovely morning walk in my happy place, the Jardin du Luxembourg… same beauty, same tranquility, same charm as always. I have been in Paris many times but walking on the leafy alleys of one of the most beautiful parks in the world has never been missed. Love everything there: exquisite statuary, beautiful pond, relaxing atmosphere… this is Paris…

Are the sailboats only on Wednesday and weekends? In the summer are the hours different? Our friends said they recently rented sailboats on a Thursday

Hello - Are the boats available every day? Or just Wednesdays and weekends like the puppet shows? Trying to make sure our kids aren't disappointed if they aren't out when we are there! Thank you!

Not sure what the question is referring to - I am not aware of boats at the gardens.
Can you bring your own rc sailboat to sail in the Luxembourg Gardens basin?

What are the children activities found in the luxembourg gardens?

There was a pond in the front of the main building with people playing with remote controlled boats however as for kids specific activities I'm not sure. We saw people lounging around in the sun, people doing Tai Chi under the trees and a band playing in the gazebo. Nice place for families to hang out inside a city

I heard that people play chess in the garden in summer. Which part of the park is it in? I tried looking at maps, but no where do I see where the permanent chess tables are set up.

I was there in October 2019 and they were playing chess - I don't think there are permanent tables. I saw them playing in the NE corner of the park, away form the pond and places where a lot of tourists go. I have pictures but cannot see how I can upload them to you.

Are the gardens still green and in bloom in September? Thanks
FAS
Singapore, Singapore105 contributions
In late September you would find more autumnal colours and grasses. Depending on the trees, the first leaves might be falling down. Since June and July were very hot in France, plants would have suffered and most likely few would still bloom. Still beautiful, just a different atmosphere
