About Loyola University Chicago
Loyola University Chicago is a private university located in the US. As of 2022, the total number of students enrolled in LUC was above 16,000. Loyola Chicago students from 82 countries and all 50 US States. In the 2022 freshman class, 49% are students of color. Loyola University Chicago History
Founded in 1870 as St. Ignatius College, it was originally located at West Twelfth Street. In 1909, St. Ignatius College was re-chartered by the State of Illinois as Loyola University and in 1922, the university moved its operations from West Twelfth Street to Sheridan and Devon. College classes have been offered at the Rogers Park campus since 1912.
The year 2001 marked a transition period for Loyola as Michael Garanzini, S.J. became its president. At that time, the university was suffering low enrollment and substantial debt. Then, over the next 10 years, Garanzini changed all this, leading Loyola to the international spotlight.
