Park-Jae-sang, known professionally as PSY, is a South Korean singer, rapper, songwriter, and record producer.

He is best known for his hit single ‘Gangnam Style.’

The song’s refrain was entered into The Yale Book of Quotations as one of the most famous quotations of 2012.

Early Life

Park Jae-sang was born on the 31st of December, 1977, in the Gangnam District of Seoul, South Korea.

His father, Park Won-Ho, is the executive chairman of DI Corporation, and his mother, Kim Young-hee, owns several restaurants in Gangnam.

Park disliked school and was known as the class clown.

In an interview on South Korea’s Seoul Broadcasting System, a former teacher of Park said: “I remember Psy making a lot of sexual jokes during class.”

Career

Park Jae-sang, best known as Psy, originally planned to study business administration to take over his father’s business.

However, once he arrived in the United States to start his studies, he switched gears and poured everything into music creation.

He dropped out of Boston University and enrolled at the Berklee College of Music before returning to South Korea to begin his career as a singer.

Psy made his first TV appearance in 2000 and released his debut album, Psy from the Psycho World, the following year.

Inspired by the wealthiest rappers in the world, Psy quickly went from a rookie hip-hop singer to a worldwide phenomenon.

Controversy & Success

Upon releasing his second album, Sa 2, Psy was hit with complaints from civil rights groups who accused him of negatively influencing children.

Despite this, his third album, 3 Psy, became a major success and received a lot of exposure due to the World Cup games in Seoul.

He released his fourth album, Ssajib, in 2006 before being drafted into the South Korean Military, where he served as a signalman until 2009.

After being released from his mandatory military service, Psy joined the South Korean label YG Entertainment.

In 2010, he released his fifth album, PsyFive, which earned him awards at the Melon and Mnet Asian Music Awards.

Psy performed with Bigbang and 2NE1 in 2012 in Osaka, Japan, marking his first appearance on a foreign network.

During his performance, he won over Japanese fans by humorously incorporating the dance moves of Beyonce and Lady GaGa into his set.

Psy’s International Breakthrough

The same year he premiered in Japan, Psy released Psy 6 (Six Rules), Part 1, and his biggest hit, “Gangnam Style.”

Released in July, by August, “Gangnam Style” became one of the most-viewed YouTube videos of all time, and it currently has 5.1 billion views.

Soon after, it became the no. 1 video on the iTunes Music Charts, taking the title from Justin Bieber’s “As Long as You Love Me.”

The success of this song got Psy signed with Scooter Braun’s Schoolboy Records, and the Gangnam district in Seoul named him an honorary ambassador.

Psy also became the second South Korean artist to appear at the MTV Europe Music Awards, where he won the Best Video award.

After Gangnam Style

After the extreme popularity of “Gangnam Style,” Psy appeared in the season finale of American Idol in 2013 to perform his new song “Gentleman.”

The following year, he collaborated with Snoop Dogg on the single “Hangover” and then released his seventh album, Chiljip PSY-da.

In 2017, he released his eighth album, 4X2=8, before leaving YG Entertainment after having been with the label for eight years.

Psy founded his label, P Nation, in 2019 and, in 2022, released his ninth album, Psy 9th.

However, despite the success of his latest album, nothing he’s released since has been able to top “Gangnam Style.”

Despite being released in 2012, the video remains popular, breaking 5 billion views in 2023, proving that it’s still Psy’s biggest hit.

Favorite Quotes from PSY

“The fact that I’m shouting that I have Gangnam style makes people crack up. Imagine if Brad Pitt was singing the song – would it be funny? A twist is important when it comes to writing lyrics.” – PSY

“If you give a man the correct information for seven years, he may believe the incorrect information on the first day of the eighth year when it is necessary, from your point of view, that he should do so. Your first job is to build credibility and the authenticity of your propaganda and persuade the enemy to trust you although you are his enemy.” – PSY

“As an artist, the more experience, the better the creation. I’m a very positive person.” – PSY

“When I signed with Scooter Braun and I decided to go overseas to promote my song, the only concern was how should I communicate with the public and the audience with my language. Scooter and I talked a lot about that: should we translate or not? Finally, we didn’t, and I think that was a really good decision.” – PSY

“I’m not that good-looking. That’s why ‘Gangnam Style’ works. If someone handsome uses that phrase it’s just awkward. But if someone like me uses it, it’s funny.” – PSY

“I lived in the States from 1996 till 2000. I attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1997. But I wasn’t the most hard-working student. I rarely went to school. At that time, I seriously doubted that you could learn creativity in school. Music isn’t something you can just learn from other people. Sometimes I regret missing classes.” – PSY

Here are some of the best success lessons to learn from Kendrick Nunn:

1. Always Learn From Observing

A lot of people believe that you can only get better with experience, but Nunn knows that simply watching can be just as good.

Every time that he’s on the bench, Nunn is making sure that he’s analyzing what’s happening in front of him and using it for when his number is called.

Sitting on the sidelines isn’t just a time to grab water and a quick breath, but is also a learning opportunity for players.

Kendrick Nunn’s mother wasn’t around much when he was growing up, and was raised almost exclusively by his father.

Introduction

Kemba Walker is an American professional basketball player for AS Monaco Basket in the LNB Pro A league.

Walker was picked ninth overall by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2011 NBA draft.

As of June 2024, Kemba Walker’s net worth is roughly $80 Million.

Early Life

Kemba Hudley Walker was born on the 8th of May, 1990, in Harlem, New York.

In his junior year, Walker played against Simeon Career Academy and senior guard Derrick Rose in Madison Square Garden in a 53–51 win.

During Walker’s senior year, he averaged 18.2 points per game and 5.3 assists per game, earning him a spot on the prestigious McDonald’s All-American Team.

Career

Kemba Walker started playing basketball at Rice High School in Harlem, New York, where he once played against Derrick Rose at Madison Square Garden.

Out of high school, he was considered a five-star recruit and the nation’s No. 14 player, and many colleges were looking to snag him.

In 2008, Walker opted to attend the University of Connecticut, where he played every contest and was named to the Big East All-Rookie Team.

By his junior year, his prominence had grown exponentially, and he had distinguished himself as one of the leading scorers in America.

Walker won the NCAA Basketball Tournament Most Outstanding Player honor in 2011 and was added to the Huskies of Honor recognition program.

The Charlotte Hornets

After graduating from UConn in three years, Kemba Walker entered the 2011 NBA Draft and was picked ninth overall by the Charlotte Hornets. ‘

Shortly after, he signed a multi-year shoe deal with Under Armour, the first rookie from the 2011 class to earn such a deal.

During his rookie season, he became the Hornets’ starting point guard and achieved his first triple-double, becoming the third in the team’s history to do so.

For his sophomore season, Walker scored a then career-high 35 points and was selected for his second Rising Stars Challenge.

In 2013, he was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for his exceptional skills on the court.

The following season, he signed a four-year extension and set the Hornets record for the most points scored in a half with 35.

Unfortunately, he was later ruled out for six weeks to have surgery on a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee, and he missed 18 games.

Despite this setback, Walked kept working to become one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, and in 2015, he had a breakthrough.

Hitting His Stride

In 2015, Walker set a franchise record with 52 points in a victory against the Utah Jazz and shortly after became the third Hornet to make 500 three-pointers.

While he underwent surgery again in May 2016, he returned to score a season-high 30 points in a win against the Brooklyn Nets.

When he returned to the court, he recorded 7,000 points and became the second-quickest player in the franchise to do so.

After another procedure on his knee, Walker came back for the 2017 season and made all 14 free throw attempts.

He also set a new team record by making 44 consecutive free throws, bringing his career total to 1,999, breaking the previous record of 1,998.

Although he wasn’t as well-known as Michael Jordan, his skills certainly made him a favorite player among Hornets fans.

The Boston Celtics

In 2019, the Boston Celtics lost Kyrie Irving and Al Horford to free agency, meaning they were searching for talent to bolster their team.

Kemba Walker officially joined the Celtics in July 2019 and chose to wear Kobe Bryant’s number 8, as his usual number 15 was retired.

He made his debut with the Celtics in October but suffered a neck injury after colliding with Semi Ojeleye.

Fortunately, he was back in November, and by January, he had recorded his first head-to-head win against LeBron James and the Celtics’ rival Lakers.

While the 2020 season was suspended due to COVID, he returned in 2021 but missed the first-round playoff series with a bone bruise.

The New York Knicks

Kemba Walker was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2021 and reached a buyout agreement with them in August.

He then signed with his hometown team, the New York Knicks, and in his first game with them, recorded 10 points and eight assists.

However, he was removed from rotation in November in favor of Alec Burks and sat for 10 games before being reactivated.

In December, he became the seventh player in NBA history to record a triple-double during an NBA Christmas Day game.

After missing a few games due to knee problems, he was sidelined for the remainder of the season and traded to the Detroit Pistons.

Continuing His Career

Once traded, Kemba Walker reached a buyout agreement and signed with the Dallas Mavericks, where he spent the 2022-23 season.

However, in January, Walker was waived by the Mavericks, so he started looking outside the US for a team.

In July 2023, he signed with LNB Pro A and the EuroLeague club AS Monaco, where he has remained since.

During his debut for Monaco, Walker scored two points in ten minutes of play, helping his team win over Crvena Zvezda.

He may not be one of the richest NBA players yet, but he is certainly working hard to join that elite group!
