No other single songwriter had the impact that Burt Bacharach had on the music of the 1960s. Of course, the 1960s had the Beatles, the Stones, the Kinks etc… but we are talking about a single songwriter here whose music was covered by thousands of artists. I can still remember being six or seven years old in the 196os and playing my mom’s Burt Bacharach records while being mesmerized by the songs I was hearing.

The landscape of American pop music would look strikingly different without the indelible influence of Burt Bacharach. Born on May 12, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri, Bacharach’s career spans over six decades, embellishing the world of music with an anthology of melodies that have become the soundtrack to many lives. I can’t imagine living in a world without the music of Burt Bacharach.

Bacharach’s early life was steeped in music. His mother, Irma M. Freeman, was a songwriter and painter, instilling in young Burt a deep appreciation for the arts. His father, Bert Bacharach, was a well-respected syndicated newspaper columnist. The family moved to New York City, a melting pot of musical innovation, which undoubtedly carved his musical aspirations.

Attending the New School for Social Research and later the music conservatory at McGill University, Bacharach was classically trained, which would later imbue his pop sensibilities with an uncommon sophistication. Post studies, he served in the Army, where he continued to hone his musical skills by arranging and performing. The post-war years found him navigating the music industry’s burgeoning scene, including a significant stint as pianist and arranger for Marlene Dietrich.

The turning point in Bacharach’s career came with his partnership with lyricist Hal David. This collaboration would yield some of the most memorable and enduring songs of the 20th century. The Bacharach-David synergy resulted in a slew of hits characterized by their complex chord progressions, unexpected rhythms, and sensitive lyrics, a stark contrast to the rock-and-roll fever of the times.

Their partnership reached its apex with the discovery of singer Dionne Warwick, whose voice seemed tailor-made for Bacharach’s compositions. Together, they crafted chart-toppers like “Walk On By,” “Say a Little Prayer,” and “Anyone Who Had a Heart,” each song a testament to Bacharach’s unique ability to meld the rhythmic elements of jazz, the lyrical intimacy of pop, and the grandeur of classical composition.

While Warwick may have been his muse, Bacharach’s versatility shone through his work with a myriad of artists across diverse genres. From The Beatles to Dusty Springfield, his music transcended boundaries and resonated across global audiences. Notably, his work in film scored him an Academy Award for “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” from “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”

This article presents the enormous catalog of his music from his studio albums, his live albums, and, of course, the never-ending series of compilations.

All these spectacular Burt Bacharach albums have been presented below in chronological order. We have also included all original release dates with each Burt Bacharach album as well as all original album covers. Every album listed below showcases the entire album tracklisting.
