Highlights

  • Best gear in Baldur's Gate 3 can be found in unexpected places, like behind secret walls or on bodies of enemies.
  • Some gear requires defeating tough bosses or interacting with specific NPCs to obtain, adding depth to gameplay.
  • Explorers and collectors will be rewarded with great gear pieces in BG3, but only if they pay attention to hidden clues.

Baldur's Gate 3 leans into the RPG genre by scattering the best gear in various places, so it's easy for players to miss them. All role-playing games are intended to have more nuance than the simple hack-and-slash, so contrary to the formula of more one-dimensional games, the best weapons don't always drop from the toughest enemies or wait in a locked chest in a dragon's hoard.

Baldur's Gate 3: 6 Hidden Details You Missed In The Mountain Pass
There's a lot to discover in the Mountain Pass in Baldur's Gate 3. Here are a few things players might find it easy to miss.

Baldur's Gate 3 hides some of the best armor pieces in plain sight, like in chests, wardrobes, and in safes. Sometimes, they're simply hidden behind secret walls or looted from a body that was killed by someone else, ensuring that explorers and collectors alike also get rewards.

Updated on May 5th, 2024, by Kristy Ambrose: Players are still combing through every nook and cranny of Baldur's Gate 3, and even many months after the game's initial launch, there's still more secrets to be found. Even though Larian Studios isn't planning on any sequels or DLC, they'll keep updating and patching the game, which means some minor additions in the form of new gear are still a possibility. Certain combinations of gear are ideal for certain character builds, no matter what their armor class might be, but not all of those gear pieces are easy to find. With that in mind, this list has been updated to feature more great gear pieces in Baldur's Gate 3 that are easy to miss.

8 Adamantine Splint Armor

Find The Right Mold, Decipher The Forge, & Defeat A Powerful Boss

baldurs-gate-3-grym-cover

Quality

Very Rare

Type

+18 Heavy Armor, Chestpiece

Actions/Abilities

Grants the abilities of Magical Plate (-2 to all damage) and Intense Adamantine Backlash (any melee attacker that strikes the wearer has a -1 to their attack rolls for three turns).

The Adamantine Splint Mail is a crafted piece of gear, and players have to defeat a boss to get it. On top of that, it's so much trouble to make that some gamers might decide it's not worth their time, even if they figure the whole process out.

This goes back to the Beholder fight near the Selunite Outpost that involved a Drow, which dropped a crystal that players might not have been able to use or understand depending on their Arcane knowledge. There are breadcrumbs all over the Underdark and Grymforge that lead to the Forge anyway, but even if players find it, they will also need the molds and the metal.

The Splint Mail mold is near the edge of a cliff by the skeleton, and depending on how players reach the Forge, it's easy to walk right past it. To operate the Forge, players need to fight and defeat its guardian, the gigantic metal construct known as Grym. It might be the toughest optional boss fight in the game, and those who don't need the gear might decide it's not worth all the hurdles just to get here.

7 Boots Of Very Fast Blinking

A Prize From The Djinn's Spinning Wheel In The Circus Of Last Days

Djinn in BG3

Quality

Uncommon

Type

Clothing, Footwear

Actions/Abilities

The ability to cast Misty Step once per Short Rest

There's a lot to see and do at the Circus of Last Days, but try not to miss Akabi the Djinni and his Wheel of Fortune. It seems like a game that's impossible to win, but that's because Akabi is cheating by using a ring that allows him to cast Mage Hand and rig the game.

Give him a taste of his own medicine, and players can win some fabulous prizes, one of them being the Boots of Very Fast Blinking. These don't have an Armor Class, so any character can use them. The catch is that some gear gets left behind at Tav's previous location when using the boots' special ability, which grants a free Misty Step per short rest.

6 Flawed Helldusk Helmet

Dammon's Skills And Some Extra Infernal Iron

Dammon at Last Light Inn in BG3.

Quality

Rare quality

Type

Medium Armor, Headgear

Actions/Abilities

Grants +2 to Constitution saving throws and gives the wearer Magical Durability (+2 to saving throws against spells).

The Flawed Helldusk Helmet is an impressively-plumed headpiece that players will miss completely unless they speak to Dammon in Last Light Inn with some extra Infernal Iron sitting in their inventory. With these conditions met, speaking to Dammon will reveal a dialogue option that encourages players to ask about a special material they have picked up.

Baldur's Gate 3: Where To Find Infernal Iron (& How To Use It)
This guide contains details on several locations in which players can find Infernal Iron, a rare and useful material in Baldur's Gate 3.

Since players need two pieces of Infernal Iron to assist Karlach, and given that it's quite difficult to come by this material at the best of times, players may not have access to more when they speak with Dammon. There's no other way to find out that Dammon can use the Infernal Iron for something else, so it's easy to miss out on the armor he can make.

5 Key Of The Ancients

Surprisingly Easy To Find But Deceptively Easy To Miss

melian wearing the key of the ancients bg3

Quality

Uncommon

Type

Clothing, Headgear

Actions/Abilities

+1 to Nature checks

There's a lot more to Druid Grove than meets the eye at first, and some exploration will lead to an underground section that grants access to a secret entrance in Nettie's room. Depending on when players find this place, the only remaining residents are a few Druids, and they might have already been killed by Goblins.

There's a Druid named Findal here, and if he's already dead, players can loot the Key of the Ancients from his body. If he's still alive, players can also get it by picking his pockets. For this point in the game, it's a great item, and because it's carried by a normal NPC with no other discerning features, it's surprisingly easy to miss.

4 Ichorous Gloves

Found In A Chest In The Storeroom Of The Waning Moon

ichorous gloves astarion inventory screen bg3

Quality

Uncommon

Type

Clothing, Gloves

Actions/Abilities

Ichorous Corrosion - Deal Acid damage with spells, or melee and ranged weapons cause the Noxious Fumes condition on the target.

They don't seem like much, but the Ichorous Gloves' power can complement several different builds for various classes. It's more obviously a handy gear piece for casters that have abilities like Acid Splash or Arrow of Acid in their spellbooks, but it also works well with any gear that also deals Acid damage.

Noxious Fumes is an AoE effect with a radius of 10 feet, and every creature within this radius takes 1d4 of Acid damage. The gloves are in a normal-looking chest in the back room of the Waning Moon, so it's important not to get distracted by Poison recipes and bottles of booze and miss them.

3 Sharpened Snare Cuirass

Buy From A Zhentarim Trader In Moonrise Towers

baldur's-gate-3-roah-moonglow-halfling-trader-zhentarim

Quality

Very Rare

Type

+14 Medium Armour, Chestpiece

Actions/Abilities

Grants the abilities of Exotic Material (+ Dexterity to AC) and Sharpened Snare (targets have Disadvantage to saving throws against attacks that inflict the Restrained condition.

Roah Moonglow is a Zhentarim trader that players can encounter at several points in Baldur's Gate 3, starting with an initial meeting in the Goblin Camp when she is trading in slaves and smoke powder. When players find her at Moonrise Towers, she's still hocking her wares, and her inventory has changed slightly to include the Sharpened Snare Curiass.

Baldur's Gate 3: Best Shortswords, Ranked
Not all Shortswords in Baldur's Gate 3 are created equal. Here are the best ones players can find on their journey.

There's not much in the way of chest pieces in BG3 that are specific to Druids and Rangers, which is what makes this piece so great to find. The problem is finding it, and plenty of adventuring parties don't talk to Roah in the Goblin Camp before they destroy it. Because of this, it's possible to finish Act 2 without going to Moonrise until she's already gone.

2 Browbeaten Circlet

Found In The Evidence Chest In Moonrise Towers Prison

browbeaten circlet gale baldur's gate 3

Quality

Uncommon

Type

Clothing, Headgear

Actions/Abilities

Grants a +1 bonus to spell save DC when threatened at melee range.

The Browbeaten Circlet is a nice piece of gear for any caster, but it's even better for one who spends a lot of time in melee combat. The bonus makes it easier for the caster to succeed in their spell saves even if they're being threatened at close range, which is a vulnerability for most casters.

This handy piece of gear is in the evidence chest of Moonrise Prison, which is in a small room only accessible through the Warden's Office via a ladder. Players either have to kill the warden or sneak past them to get it, and that's why most players miss this headgear entirely.

1 Spellmight Gloves

A Reward For Completing The Worst Quest In The Game

Baldur's Gate 3 Circus Lucretious

Quality

Very Rare

Type

Clothing, Gloves

Actions/Abilities

Grants the Spellmight ability (allows the wearer to sacrifice 5 points of their attack roll to deal an extra 1d8 of damage).

It's called "Find Dribbles The Clown," and many BG3 players have already formed a consensus that it's one of the worst quests in the game. The quest is also optional, and skipping it won't affect the main storyline in the slightest. If players don't need a pair of casting gloves, they likely won't even be looking for this handy piece of armor.

Another disincentive is the time and effort it takes to gather up all of Dribble's dismembered body parts. It's possible that players won't be able to get all of them until the very end of Act 3, and the Spellmight Gloves have limited use for the conclusion of the game.

If anyone else asked besides the colorful Lucretius, it would be easier to walk away. But still, for those looking to enhance their magic users, these are nice gloves for any character with casting abilities.
