Dueling Nexus 2.0 Announcement - Replays, New UI, User Customisation, and Way More!

News

Hello everyone! My name is Sky, and I am the Project Manager for Dueling Nexus. I am here to bring you all some huge updates we've released recently!

For anyone unfamiliar, Dueling Nexus is a fully-automatic web-based free-to-play Yu-Gi-Oh! online game with all the cards unlocked. Last year, we released some major updates, including a complete redesign of the deck editor and the game screen; these updates added many high-requested features, such as sorting options, a game log, and more. Additionally, a lot of game breaking bugs that may have once been present have been fixed, and many quality of life improvements have been made based on player input.

Now, today, I am here to present you all with an update on our roadmap! Previously, I had shared with you the release of Stage 1, the Deck Editor Overhaul, and Stage 2, the Gameplay Revamp. Since that last post, we have continued to implement new features. However, over the course of development, we've found ourselves constrained by the Stages we set for ourselves. As such, we have instead opted to focus on features individually, as opposed to in stages. With that said,

The following features are now available on Dueling Nexus:

  • Replays

    • Users can now save their duels and watch them later.

    • You can share you replays with other players by simply sending them the URL; no login required to view!

  • New Game Lobby

    • The lobby screen has been totally redesigned from the ground up!

    • New user customisation options have been added for all players, including new Avatars, Sleeves, Frames, and Playmats.

  • HD Card Images

    • All cards are now in HD, allowing for a better viewing experience on larger monitors and resolutions.

    • Images are now automatically generated with our game updates. This means that should card names be changed (such as going from OCG names to TCG names), the card image will reflect the change. This also means that images will continuously be updated as higher-quality image scans are made available.

  • Yugioh Deck - Deck Sharing

    • Two sharing options are now available. Players can choose to share their Decks with anyone by simply sending them the Deck's URL, or publicly share them in our new Public Deck Browser!

    • Players are able to open shared Decks and Public Decks simply with their URL, even if they are not logged on. Users are additionally able to make changes and save a copy of shared Decks to their own account.

    • There are a variety of options to help users navigate the new Public Deck Browser, including user-selected tags, view and download counts, and a variety of filters.

    • Our staff hand-curates Top Decks, allowing users to quickly glance at what Decks are currently popular in the TCG, OCG, and Rush Duel formats.

  • Card Database

    • By clicking on a card's name on the left-side view menu in the Deckbuilder or in-game, players are able to pull up a unique card page, which includes additional information such as the card's current status in the TCG and OCG, its release date, the packs it is available in, and even links to both TCG Player and Card Market for those interested in purchasing cards IRL.

    • Additionally, we plan to implement a few other key features here, such as usage statistic, rulings, and other useful data.

  • Card Image Maker

    • This includes Series 10, Series 11 (Rush), and Anime style cards. All fonts and sizing are accurate to real-life cards, and most importantly, no watermarks!

    • You are able to save cards as images, or save a .json file locally if you wish to keep working on a certain card. This file can even be shared to other devices, if you or someone else would like to keep working on a certain card.

  • Nyx

    • She's not really a new feature, but I would like to introduce everyone to our new mascot character, Nyx!

    • An underground Duelist from New Maiami City's Satellite District, Nyx may appear cold and discerning at first glance, but don't let her appearance fool you! She is kind, caring, and a bit of an air head too. She loves a good Duel, and spends a lot of her time helping players test their Decks out.

    • You can encounter Nyx in-game by playing loading into a Quick or Custom solo game, or by selecting the Test option inside the Deck Builder. She plays many different kinds of Decks, mainly from the OCG, including casual decks like Blue-Eyes, to more competitive-oriented Decks like Orcust.

    • Nyx was designed in part by a collaboration with u/Travagar on Twitter, be sure to check them out! https://twitter.com/Travag4r. We can't wait to share more of Nyx with you all soon, and we definitely look forward to seeing some fanart too!

And finally, debuting today:

  • Battle Pass System

    • Featuring 65 total tiers, including Avatars, Sleeves, Portraits, Frames, and Playmats designed around recent Decks such as Kashtira, Branded, Purrely, and more.

    • 100% microtransaction free!! All tiers advance from gaining XP while playing Quickplay or Ranked Mode.

    • A new Battle Pass will be included with each new TCG banlist, to constantly keep players engaged.

  • Customisable player Portraits

    • A new customisation option, previously player's portraits simply displayed a player's in-game Rank. With the release of the Season Pass, players will now be able to customise their portraits, such as they would their Sleeve Frames.

  • Animated Card Rarities

    • A total of 9 new rarities have been added: Rare, Super Rare, Ultra Rare, Prismatic Rare, Ultimate Rare, Gold Rare, Ghost Rare, and the all-new exclusive Nexus Rare.

    • Rarities are earnable from both the Battle Pass, and participation in official DNX events hosted on our Discord server, such as Tournaments, Gameshows, and more. The Nexus Rare rarity in particular will be exclusive to winners of our events.

What Comes Next?

We are still not done with updates! The following features are all currently in development:

  • Player Titles

    • Another layer of customisation, allowing players to display a Title of their choice in the pre-game lobby (currently used to display their in-game Rank).

  • Achievements

    • Special one-time challenges with unique unlocks for Avatar, Sleeve, Playmats, and more.

  • Daily and Weekly Challenges

    • To give players an XP boost in their Battle Pass grind.

  • Career Challenges

    • Lifetime progressive challenges to give players even more XP and even some unique customisation items.

  • 3D Mode with Holograms

    • For so long, one complaint users had about DNX was that it looked "flat" compared to YGOPro's vibrant 3D field. No longer! We are actively working on a 3D mode, with Holograms (card cutouts that display above cards).

    • Players will be able to change between 2D and 3D mode on the fly via the Options menu.

  • Nyx Emotes in In-Game Chat

    • Currently available on our Discord Server, players will be able to send Nyx Emotes to each other in the in-game chat.

  • Public Player Pages

    • Allowing players to display their Publicly Shared Decks, Achievements, Career Performance, Saved Replays, and more.

    • These pages can optionally be set to Private, for the privacy-concious.

  • Additional Mobile Compatability Fixes

    • Currently, the site has launched its mobile-friendly open Beta. The game now is much more mobile-friendly, and we plan to continue to improve the mobile experience for players on-the-go.

  • Multilingual Support

    • The site currently supports cards in 11 languages- English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, Arabic, Korean, Vietnamese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.

    • We will be expanding this support to also fully-translate the entire site UI for a truly localised experience.

  • Even More Events with In-Game Rewards

    • Earlier this week, we hosted our first Tournament with in-game prizes, a Live Tournament. Despite only being announced a day ahead of time, we had a turn out of over 160 players competiting for in-game Rarities.

    • Future events (not just Tournaments!) will include a plethora of in-game prizes, including exclusive Avatars, Sleeves, Playmats, and more!

  • A Secret New Game Mode

    • Currently in pre-Alpha testing, an all-new mechanical way to play DNX will be coming soon ;)

    • Very special shout-out to Glitchy and Lyris for your work on this!

Join the Nexus

We are currently looking to partner with Content Creators to promote our platform! We are in the beginning stages of development a referral system for partners, which allows their watchers and consumers to support them and gain exclusive in-game prizes while doing so!

We are also currently looking for volunteers to help us expand our platform!

  • If you are a Portuguese, German, French, Italian, Korean, or Thai speaker, we need your help localising our game into your language!

  • If you are a Graphical Designer, and looking to have your work featured on our platform, we are in need of people who can design cosmetics, game assets, renders, illustrations, and artworks.

  • If you are an EDM Musician who'd like your music featured in our site, we are looking for audio engineers to contribute to our ever-growing OST, and SFX library.

  • If you are a Lua programmer, we are looking for Card Scripters to get card updates out even faster for players to enjoy.

  • If you are a writer, journalist, or editor, we are currently looking for authors to write News Articles, Discussion Posts, and more for our site.

As a finaly note, PLEASE keep in mind that these features are in active development, and bugs could therefore appear. If you experience any issues with these game changes, please report them to us in our Discord server, under the #open-beta-feedback channel. We would love to hear if you have any suggestions on what you would like to see added to Dueling Nexus!

Finally, we will be hosting an AMA on our Discord Server to address any questions users may have about the site, be it features, development, or just getting to know the developers better! Can u also add that when server disconnects u u have 20 secs to reconnect to duel. Like it happens more than 1 in 20 matches.

Common Dueling Nexus W

I just remembered another huge QOL improvement that would be fantastic to implement. When the opponent adds a card from deck to hand (Pot of Prosperity, any search effect), it would be useful for the event log to report the name of the card that was added. Currently, it only says "A card was added to their hand", and if you don't actually see it happen there's no way to confirm what the card was.

Just unlocked my Riseheart portrait. Excellent job by the dev team on adding BP and rarities, looking forward for all the other stuff you're cooking up

Edit: Also would you guys consider adding a cheaper option for donations? I'd like to support the project but $7 is just a little bit too steep in my country's currency. Won't mind dropping $1-3 from time to time, even if I don't get access to custom avatars or card sleeves.

Hi there, in the Donations tab you can choose to give less than $7. Select "One Time Donation" on the bottom-right corner, and from the drop down, you can select however much you'd like to give! $7 is just a baseline for a monthly recurring subscription.

our duel bot, Nyx, is based on the open-sourced Windbot for YGOSharp. The majority of the Decks on there haven't been updated to keep up with banlists, hence user complaints, but they're the only ones available. If you or someone you know is familiar with C# though, do feel free to make commits to Windbot's Repo, and we can add them into the game. https://github.com/IceYGO/windbot

I really like Nexus one of the best sims.

When play on mobile during a match. I have one problem.

Side Decking cards in and out of the main deck is quite a haste.

Let's say I have a 60 card and I want to side all 15 side cards and you know which cards you want to side.

You can't put all 15 cards in the main from the side deck.

You don't know how many cards are in the deck. Thus you don't know if you should add or remove cards during the process.

You have to hold down to select the card. This takes a while and you can easily touch the wrong card.

Their is no timer during side decking.

You can't look at the cards in detail.

Mobile is currently in "beta". We're prioritising PC development first and foremost as that is the most popular platform, and in general mobile development is tricky. But I promise you we'll tackle it eventually.

So I understand how the xp works but what about the people that only really play to face their friends. Is that still not going to give xp or yes and if so would the xp they get from those duel would have a reduced amount or have like some kind of a limit???

Hi, at the moment you can get XP from playing Unranked, Ranked, and Custom Games IF you don't change any of the settings (i.e. increasing lifepoint count, changing banlists, etc). You could host a private game and duel your friends and still gain XP that way :)

I am curious: Would you ever consider adding some more AI decks to the system? I think the system overall with DN is great, but testing on AI decks is also a nice way to just test some generic combos and whatnot before taking them into actual PVP.

Not sure of the work that goes into it though, so more of a hopeful thing than anything.

Thank you for making an amazing Yu-Gi-Oh game that's available to use on many platforms including phone and Xbox! I can play any cards and deck anytime without needing to collect cards or any rarities. Tag duels are incredibly fun. The battle pass is looking great!

I've been using DN for 2 years or so, it's my favorite, being fast and practical, and I've tried all YGO platforms. Maybe the bug report procedure could be improved. It's not clear nor straightforward (it's through ygo Omega forum) and the bugs take very long to fix if they are only found in DN.

Dueling Nexus is awesome. I had so many fond memories of playing with a friend on the PS4 web browser of all places years ago, just messing around with absurd deck combos in tag duels. It’s amazing to see how far it has come since then.

Hi there, I have been frustrated with DN because of Kashtiras. Three huge bugs that need to be fixed: (1) distinguish between face-up and face-down banished cards (2) indicators for which cards have activated their effects, when building/resolving a chain and viewing cards in the gy/banished (3) most frustrating when my opponent rips a card from my extra deck, the UI does not reliably present which card was ripped. My opponent says he ripped Dragoon, but I still see it in the Extra Deck.

I don't know where my ED cards are (extra deck, face-up banished, or face-down banished) and it makes it very difficult, if not impossible, to play.

For (1), I'm unsure how this works in other games, but in DNX you can view face-up and face-down for your opponent, but your own all appear face-up. I'll see if we can do something about it. I can't say I understand issue (2), can you clarify? At the moment when viewing cards in the GY, banished, etc that activated their effect, you can see a chain icon on the top-right of the card. As for (3), I also don't understand. You can press View on the Extra Deck to view the cards currently in your ED. You can also check with the quick menu while viewing other prompts.

Also I wanted to thank you for taking the time to read my feedback, I really appreciate your time and everything that you have done for the online sim community.

It's hard to explain over text (and on mobile), I would provide images but currently at work.

On (1) - it's very important that the player knows which of their own cards are face-up banished or face-down banished, not just their opponent's.

On (2) - A great example of this is when my opponent goes cl1 Tearlaments Merrli in GY to fuse, while having two copies of Merrli in their GY. If I go cl2 bystial to target Merrli in GY, there is no indication (that I'm aware) for which copy of Merrli in GY has activated its effect in this chain. Similarly, if my opponent then decided to go cl3 their own bystial to target the Merrli that I targeted, there is not a clear indication of which copy of Merrli has already been chosen as a target in this chain.

(2) can also be said for (e.g.) resolving Merrli's effect and being careful to select the copy of Scheiren that did not also activate its effect in this same chain.

If there is an icon for (2) that makes this whole thing moot, I apologize for my unfamiliarity with the platform, but humbly suggest making that icon more prominent because I have never noticed it before.

On (3) - If my opponent activates Unicorn to banish my Dragoon from my extra deck, face-down, oftentimes when I go to view my banished pile, I see a different card that is not Dragoon. When I view my extra deck, Dragoon is still there. But when I try to fusion summon using DM and a dragon effect monster, Dragoon does not appear as a valid fusion target. This is possibly just a graphical bug. The result of this bug is that the player can not reliably track the locations of their extra deck monsters.

Alright, I can confirm (2) was fixed. (1) i forwarded, (3) can you provide a replay link or instructions for replicating the issue?

I can't get you a replay for (3) right now, maybe tonight I can get my friend to help me replicate. The gist of the scenerio is facing off vs a kashtira player that has resolved Unicorn and diablosis effects multiple times in the duel. At a certain point (after 2/3 banish effects and after summoning from the extra deck myself), the list gets jumbled. I've had it show that Chimera was still in ED despite it being face-up on the field.

I love ure work, and nexus for me is 100 times better then db just coz people cant slow play or cheat.

U need to improve:

  1. Disconect problem

  2. Targeting / Activating cards in gy (example: if there are multiple copys of same card, u cant know what ure oppenent targeted or activated)

  3. Option to cancle some actions (lets say u want to summon and u check gy u dont have good targets, u cant cancel that)

  4. Add option when opponent wants to end mp/go to bp, that it says on screen.

Is there a way to shuffle your hand after you draw from an effect? There doesn't seem to be an option.

Hi, the hand is automatically shuffled when you add a card not by drawing. A manual shuffle is not a supported feature by the game core, and to my knowledge not done by any other automated sim.

So there isn't an option to shuffle after drawing by card effect? Would be nice if you could add the option to shuffle after drawing by effect. I think it's huge when it comes to not letting your opponent know if you drew a S/T for example.

If you drew and can't shuffle. Later on you set that card down in your S/T zone. Then I know you drew it off your effect. As oppose to letting me shuffle, then later in the same turn, I set it in the S/T. There's no knowing if I drew that card from the card effect or if I had in hand from the beginning.

Just my 2 cents.

1- as i stated before, you shuffle after adding a card from your deck to your hand when not drawing.
2- all cards come from the middle of the hand, so they shouldn't be able to tell.

Hi sky thanks for the dueling nexus team but can you please consider these suggestions?

Format banlist for goat,Edison,hat and toss.

Put a toggle for deck building and duels to deferintiate rush and master rule format.

Hi,
At the moment we cannot support retro formats, due to cards receiving erratas, or some formats like Goat not being compatible with the game core due to fundamental procedural changes. Still, if you wish to partake, you can set your Deck to "no banlist" and host a custom game with banlist check disabled.

Hi sorry I forgot 1 last thing and it's the placement of battle pass is where single duel is so in muscle memory I keep pressing it but also its annoying and buggy as I get thrown to a different tab or it doesn't register that I clicked neither dies trying to enter a game it works only after 4 or 5 clicks and yes I do have 5g hi speed internet

Is there a way to submit bugs, for when cards are features are broken?

Hi, attached below is our card bug reporting guide from our Discord server:

If you do not see the bug you are experiencing in the above list, please check for these common issues first:

  1. Make sure it is actually a bug - people often reporting false bugs due to them missing something such as a certain game state or rulings. Ask in #rulings-help first to make sure what you encountered is indeed a bug.

  2. Try to reproduce the bug - if you report a bug without really knowing how it happened, its going to give us a hard time looking into it.

  3. Check if the card is throwing out yellow text or behaving strangely (such as having abnormally high numerical values). If a card's ID begins with 10xxxxxxx, then it is considered a beta card. These cards are known to be buggy, and do not need to reported here. Instead, try them out in YGO Omega, and see if they work there. DNX and YGO Omega use the same database and card scripts, so if something is wrong here (particularly close to the card's release date on the game), then it is likely wrong there as well. And the people behind Duelists Unite are the ones who oversee these cards, and should be the first responders to these types of bugs.

If you would still like to proceed with reporting a card script bug, you may do so through Duelist Unite's forum, found here: https://forum.duelistsunite.org/c/omega/bugs/10

If you do submit a report, please ensure you include the following in your report:

  1. A link a ruling referencing either the Yugioh OCG Card Database, OR a statement issued by an OCG certified judge (with photographic proof). Statements issued by TCG judges will not be considered UNLESS they refer to a specific ruling found within the Yugioh OCG Card Database or Rule Book.

  2. Recorded footage (such as a gif or a video), or ample screenshots, of your bug in action.

Please see the example below for a properly formatted bug report. Please note that YGO Omega is not Dueling Nexus. Their game, YGO Omega, is constantly updated daily, so they may have already fixed card issues that may be present within DNX. If that is the case, you must wait until DNX updates the game. Also note that they will not address platform-specific bugs. You can leave any issues you encounter with the site itself in #open-beta-feedback.

Or you could just Play EDOpro, YuGiOh Omega, or Duelingbook… I think most people are just gonna that lol

EDOpro has no ladder, DB you can get frozen/banned but mainly people don't like to do manual stuff

No problem is that people are cheting and u need to wait for judge long time one match on db is arounde 50-70 mins and here on nexus its a lot faster. Time is everything. Only bad thing on nexus is that enemy knows when u have hand trap and sometimes u cant have chaining on off:/

Omega is really cool but every single time I open it there's a big update. This looks like a slightly better Edo so I'll give it a shot

I want to ask, but does the exp requirement for each tier in the battle pass increase by 1000 each time? Because that seems like it'd get to be a massive pain for higher tiers. Really cool feature tho

atm it caps out at a 10k increase.
Remember these are meant to last you as long as TCG banlists do, so about 3 months!
We will also be supplementing XP gain with challenges soon

There is currently a bug: when you see the opponents extra deck, it shows the cards wrong. For example you see you banished 2 zeus from their extra deck, but they see it actually was 1 zeus and another random card from their extra

Are you able to provide steps for reproducing this issue? When we tried, we couldn't find anything wrong

Its pretty easy, happens almost every single time. Play a ranked match with kashtira, first banish the 1st copy with diabolos, in the opponents turn banish the 2nd copy with unicorn. Ask the opponent which card you banished the second time, it will not be the 2nd copy you picked. Makes kashtira unplayable on dueling nexus
