Anupama Chopra Hindustan Times Gritty is not the adjective that comes to mind when you think of director Pradeep Sarkar or producer Yash Raj Films. So the first few minutes of Mardaani are startling. Rated: 3/5 Apr 10, 2015 Full Review Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express After the interval, the filmmakers throw all restraint to the wind. Rated: 2/5 Apr 10, 2015 Full Review Andy Webster New York Times You might call "Mardaani" a South Asian version of the Liam Neeson thriller "Taken." But that's too easy. Aug 24, 2014 Full Review Aarti Jhurani The National (UAE) Even though the movie is supposed to be serious, a few scenes come across as ridiculous and are reminiscent of 1980s Bollywood cinema. Rated: 2/5 May 5, 2015 Full Review Sukanya Verma Rediff.com If only the script weighed more in intensity of thoughts than stagy heroics and simplistic resolutions, it could do a lot more for women in the film industry if not society in general. Rated: 2.5/5 Apr 14, 2015 Full Review Rachit Gupta Filmfare Watch it for thrills; watch it with a pro-feminist stance. Rated: 3/5 Apr 10, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews

V H An excellent must-watch movie. Rani is in top form, what a performance. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/27/23 Full Review Audience Member The main antagonist is the real hero of the movie. Can't remember if Rani was always this bad actor or this is one off. And she is definitely not an action hero. Good premise but bad execution. And the end credits are just too much. Should have kept it real. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Though Pradeep Sarkar's 'Mardaani' comes with ideas having great shape and great form, and an underlined heroine who might be India's first leading female cop, and with the most wickedly entertaining villain in the present times- shows promise in it's ultimate chase premise, it is all bogged down by 'the curse of the second half', which, as it turns out, makes the film awfully slow, casually bland and inept. The film then treads into the familiar path: you just have to ignore the film's ''well-made'' essence when the film itself has heavy-handed writing. Ultimately there are good concepts in 'Mardaani' but you just watch for Shivani Shivaji, played by an in-form Rani Mukherji and her sly villain, played by the excellent debutant Tahir Raj Bhasin. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review yash b "Mardaani" is a realistic and intense thriller that doesn't shy away from some disturbing imagery of its harsh subject material. While this movie is pretty tough to watch at times, I felt it kept me engaged throughout. I thought Rani Mukerji was great in the lead role and it was a nice breath of fresh air to see such a strong female lead in a Bollywood movie. I also thought this movie, for the most part, was very realistic. I thought in its final act, the movie became a little over the top here and there and it took me out of the experience. However, this is a well-made thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat with a truly memorable main character and powerful social message.
