It isn't very difficult to see why
You are the way you are
Doesn't take a genius to realize
That sometimes life is hard
It's gonna take time
But you'll just have to wait
You're gonna be fine
But in the meantime

Come over here lady
Let me wipe your tears away
Come a little nearer baby
'Cause you'll heal over
Heal over
Heal over someday

And I don't wanna hear you tell yourself
That these feelings are in the past
You know it doesn't mean they're off the shelf
Because pain is built to last
Everybody sails alone
But we can travel side by side
Even if you fail
You know that no one really minds

Come over here lady
Let me wipe your tears away
Come a little nearer baby
Cause you'll heal over
Heal over
Heal over someday

Don't hold on but don't let go
I know it's so hard
You've got to try to trust yourself
I know it's so hard, so hard

Come over here lady
Let me wipe your tears away
Come a little nearer baby
Cause you'll heal over
Heal over
Heal over someday

Yeah you're gonna heal over

i think it'd be great to see an artist who can write about female relationships without being labelled a lesbian. the relationship/friendship between 2 women can be the most intense in your life.. i can see the parallels between this song and another place to fall... i wouldnt be suprised if they were about the same person. sometimes u give and give and give and its just not enough until you just snap, and say, get over it, or find another person to lean on...

I think this song is fairly self explanitory, however it is done in such a way that it's meaning could be interpreted in many ways while keeping the same root meaning, something i f ind truly beautiful about her songwriting

i cant believe this song is commentless, expecially since this is probably the most insightful on the album, to me anyway. its obviously about moving on, how each of us has to build a bridge and get over it sometime. other than that i think it can be taken at face value.

I just discovered KT Tunstall 2 days ago and fell in love with her style and voice. This is the favorite of the songs I've heard thus far. It's partially because of the way it "fits" into my life right now, but I absolutely LOVE the harmony as well. Great song, agree with Pixie. I was trying to figure out the line "You've got to try to trust yourself I know it's so hard, so hard." I'm not sure of what she's saying. Any ideas?

Not very hidden meaning to this song:

"Because pain is built to last Everybody sails alone But we can travel side by side Even if you fail You know that no one really minds"

Things happen, not always the way we want them too, and it hurts, but I'll be there for you.

The most obvious message here - “You get hurt in life. Give it time. Things will get better.” - is not very interesting.

But more depth is hinted at here. The first stanza talks about how the bumps, bruises, and trauma a person has experienced are readily visible in how they behave. The irony, of course, is that each of us thinks we are successfully masking these scars.

The crux of the song is in the third stanza. Once again the speaker reminds us that denying pain is a delusion. And the hurt does not really go away. It is carried with you. And the sooner you realize this, the more easily you will connect with the equally damaged people around you.

The message I get from this song is that denying one’s imperfections leads to isolation.

i was wondering the same thing which is why i came on here, to see if anyone else had that thought. i dont mean it in a discriminatory way which is what may be assumed, but when you look at the lyrics of her songs it seems that she is gay. does anyone know for sure?

Kate isn't gay....She has been dating Luke Bullen (Addict, Zanderman, and Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros) for at least 3 years....He is currently her drummer!

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
