Dinos Mavropanos

Team News: Moyes updates on Aguerd and Mavropanos fitness

David Moyes has confirmed that West Ham United could welcome Dinos Mavropanos back into his squad for Sunday’s Premier League fixture at Chelsea.

The Greece international has been out since suffering an injury in the second half of the home defeat by Fulham on 14 April, missing the Hammers’ last three matches in all competitions.

The Irons have conceded eight goals in those three games – a UEFA Europa League quarter-final second-leg with Bayer Leverkusen and Premier League fixtures with Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

Having lost just one of the seven Premier League games Mavropanos started prior to the Fulham defeat, West Ham would undoubtedly welcome the 26-year-old back, should he have recovered in time for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

While Mavropanos could be available to Moyes, the manager confirmed he will definitely be without the injured Nayef Aguerd, as the Morocco international continues his recovery from an injury suffered in the first half of the 1-1 Europa League draw with Leverkusen at London Stadium on 18 April.

“On the two centre-backs, Dinos is making some progress and Aguerd isn’t available,” Moyes confirmed, speaking in his pre-match press conference.

“Regarding others, I don’t think we’re too bad at the moment, I think we’re OK.”

Should he play, Angelo Ogbonna would make his 200th Premier League appearance for the Club.

Midfielder Freddie Potts trained with the squad at Rush Green on Friday, having completed a successful loan spell at EFL League One club Wycombe Wanderers that saw him win the Player of the Year award and appear in the EFL Trophy final at Wembley. However, the 20-year-old is not eligible to play in the Premier League.

Chelsea have a number of injured absentees, including defenders Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Malo Gusto and Wesley Fofana and midfielders Enzo Fernandez, Carney Chukwuemeka and Romeo Lavia, while Axel Disasi, Raheem Sterling, Lesley Ugochukwu, Reece James and Robert Sanchez are all working their way back to full fitness.
