I didn't give this 5 stars as I felt compelled to buy the import "Anthology" to get the tracks that were missing. Otherwise, this is a fine set for the curious.

Some great tracks, but missing some absolutely essential songs. Where the hell is Day Of The Eagle????????? That oversight alone cost this one star.

The Essential Robin Trower is a compilation of many of Robin Trower's best songs from his 70s/early 80s peak. It's a bit annoying that "Lady Love" was included instead of "Day Of The Eagle", but that's a minor quibble, as both songs were performed when I saw him live to celebrate my birthday. The fact that Trower, like most rockers of his era (except that pig Cat Stevens), as well as his band members, past and present, believe that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since 2005 for drug-smuggling was unjustly convicted makes The Essential Robin Trower an essential purchase for both your ears and your conscience.

The Essential Robin Trower collection is a beginners guide to the hypnotic, fluid guitar style of one of the most under-rated musicians in rock 'n' wah-wah. While Trower is heavily influenced by the blues and Jimi Hendrix, he manages to transcend the obvious, stamping each track with his unique style.
The 1991 compilation disc features sixteen cuts from Trower's solo career with Chysalis Records. The disc starts strongly with the epic seven minute string bending sensation "Too Rolling Stoned", followed by the infectious, cowbell accented "Lady Love", and Trower's signature cut "Bridge of Sighs". Other inspiring numbers from the set include "Shame the Devil", "Victims of the Fury", "Confessin' Midnight", "Gonna Be More Suspicious", "I Can't Wait Much Longer", and the ballad "Hannah".
As with any compilation recording, there are omissions. Overlooked during the selection process for the sixteen song Essential retrospective, were "Day of the Eagle", "Long Misty Days" and "Mad House".

Very underrated band that had a big sound for a three piece band.Great live and their bass player was one of the best singers of all-times in rock.
