Live reviews

  • Tina Dico

We first came across Tina Dico many years ago when she was a vocalist on a Zero 7 album - her voice was enough to make us want to go and see her at one of her own gigs at Dingwalls in Camden and we all just fell in love with her that night.

Whenever she played or released a new record, we'd be in the queue and the experience got better and better each time. There's something mesmeric and utterly involving in her lyrics and for those of us brought up on the clean and clear singing style of ABBA in the 70's, her performances were always a highlight of any gig-going year.

Roll forward a few years and most of us have settled down with families and other commitments, but when Tina announced a new date at Shepherd's Bush, tickets were bought and baby-sitters were booked.

Shepherd's Bush is normally a stand-up venue, so it was a surprise to see that seats were on sale in the stalls area, but a seated environment is perfectly appropriate for Tina's music. There's no real moment when it feels necessary to bop around - her music is more internal and contemplative, so the setting was just right.

The audience was as sophisticated as Tina and her wonderful band. I think I only spotted one camera phone being deployed in my line of sight and we all knew exactly when to clap and when to let the song end in it's own time, failures often seen and heard at other gigs.

There were many magical moments in Tina's set, but none more so when "Old Friends" was played - as a group with more than twenty five years of friendship to call on, there were some wet eyes at that moment.

    A truly memorable evening.

  • Danish sensation Tina Dickow (Or Dico as she is known internationally) is a beautiful, fragile act when performing live. Currently promoting her 2014 album 'Whispers' after the birth of her two children, she is ready to take her show back on the road which she has been changing, practicing and developing since her musical career began in 1997.

Her blonde lochs are illuminated centre stage as she holds her guitar proudly and ferociously tears through tracks such as 'Drifting' and 'Mines'. Her backing band have great rapport with the songstress and they have a sunny persona onstage which matches the vibe and tone of Tina's music. However new album seems to tackle darker tones, and it's melodies alter to sit in a deeper range but these are no issue for Dickow's voice. She actually seems to enjoy these moments of sombreness, such as new single 'Someone You Love' which the crowd all seem to know well. A very personal and frank rendition of 'Use Me' keeps the crowd enveloped in the moment with the singer to the very final moment until she exits to huge applause. Now concentrating on family living in Reykjavík, make sure you get the chance to see Tina when she leaves her family abode and travels across the rest of Europe as it'll only be a matter of time before this talented mother will have to return to the nest.

  • Taking advantage of the way the music industry has changed, Tina Dico has been releasing her music independently, and as such, has gained a solid fan base both in her home country of Denmark, as well as across Europe. As an artist, she write and records her songs as a solo artist, but when she embarks on a tour, she has a backing band consisting of another guitarist/vocalist and a drummer.

It’s quite surprising to watch her live sets. She is a petite woman, especially compared to the ginormity of the stage, but when she starts playing her guitar and singing, you attention is immediately drawn to her, and never taken off her until you realize that the song is over…only to be drawn back in immediately at the start of the next song. The live vocal harmony of contrasting male/female voice, and the tone of her music makes her shows very relaxed and laid back. However, don’t be mistaken that there is no passion behind her songs. Watching her sing, you see all of the emotion that she had writing the song, come pouring out for all to see and hear. When she speaks to the audience to say thank you or to introduce the next song, her voice is very

  • Having first heard of Tina back in 2013 i gradually built up a collection of her music and when i had the chance to visit Berlin and saw she was on tour at the same time snapped up tickets to finally see her perform live.

I had no real expectations but was very impressed by her presence and ability - she never faltered throughout .

A mix of new songs from her recently released album and plenty of old favourites were all warmly received by an enthusiastic crowd. She was humorous in story telling and for such a diminutive figure has a powerful full vocal range. Her band were tight and never missed a beat.

She came back on for 4 encores and even stayed behind afterwards for a meet and greet, signing and photos with fans.

So glad i made the effort to see her, just fantastic live , why she is not huge outside of her native Denmark and Germany i will never know, but selfishly i am sort of pleased as it means you can still see her in smaller venues when really she should be playing arena's.

    Tina, i thank you.

  • Tina Dico played a solo concert in an old abbey ruin, the Limburg abbey in Bad Dürkheim.

As there are no parking places at the Limburg abbey, a Bus Shuttle was available and the Shuttle was well organized.

It was my second concert with Tina Dico and it won't be the last one, definitely.

She had two different guitars, two drums and her incredible voice. The whole concert was very entertaining, as she shared so many stories and everyday occurrences with us and all together with those great songs.

Together with a beautiful light show, which put those old ruin into a magical places, this whole evening was just perfect.

If you have the chance to see Tina Dico live, DON'T miss it. I loved it.
