i'm sorry linda hunt but I HATE THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL I HATE THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL I HATE THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL
A bizarre alternate universe in which Gertrude Stein was a semi-tolerable Brit. Would’ve been interesting if it wasn’t so boring.
Our professor assured us that this film was “very rare” and I can see why. Can I get some family guy clips to go along with it it’s boringgggg
I’m surprised they didn’t include Stein being a raging homophobe while talking to Hemingway!
Useless and flat… sorry Sylvie
What If There Were Two
I appear to be completely incapable of keeping the name of this film straight in my head. This is because it reminds me of the REM song "Nightswimming," which features the line, "Pining for the moon." And I know that can't be the title of this, because that would mean it started with "P," and obviously, whatever I'm watching starts with "W," and so I just have no idea what the title is! So basically, I'm never going to remember the name of this movie again, which is a shame, because it's pretty decent and I have some friends I'd recommend it to if I could remember the name to recommend it to anyone. So…
This is a film following Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas on a bit of a road trip, spending time with one another and bickering. They pick up a boy -- a young Andrew McCarthy, famous most we guess from his teen romantic dramas and comedies -- who is off to fight in the Spanish Civil War. We also meet other famous people on their way -- Picasso, Hemingway. The pacing is slow, like a long drive without a car in the world despite getting on the nerves of a person you can't live without. The acting is terrific as well, and there are some inspired-looking scenes among an overall unambitious, but comfortable, visual aesthetic.
