August 13, 1922 - May 24, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Buck Kartalian. Buck grew up in New York City. He served in WWII aboard the destroyer, USS Nicholas. He then became a wrestler and a body builder. Buck acted on Broadway, then moved to Hollywood with his wife Margaret. He was well known as Julius, the cigar smoking ape in the Planet of the Apes. He was also in Cool Hand Luke, Mr. Roberts & Outlaw Josie Wales. Buck did 100's of television spots & commercials. Buck also worked as the Ale Master and Hercules at the Renaissance Faire. He will be remembered as a kind, generous person and as a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather & Great-grandfather. Services June 4th; contact Julie for information 818 262-8243.

Deepest sympathy to the family of Buck Kartalian. I just learned of his passing today, and was so saddened to hear the news. I had the honour and privilege of acting in a feature called "Checkpoint" with Buck many years ago. He kept me and the rest of the cast and crew in stitches during a memorably cold and challenging shoot in Detroit area in a bitterly cold January. We all benefited from Buck's experience and expertise- he really was 'the real deal' a true veteran character actor. He spoke fondly of his wife, Margaret and I was sorry to hear she had also passed last year. My condolences to his children and loved ones.
