UPDATE (6 weeks later): This book is really terrific. I have learned more about the specific ingredients and why they help lower inflammation and cholesterol. I am now honestly addicted to my lunchtime salad (a big surprise) and start looking forward to it and enjoy planning what I’m going to put in it. Another interesting difference is that practicing putting these meals together has helped motivate me to make better choices when we’re at restaurants, and it doesn’t feel like a punishment or that I am denying myself. It has also helped me adapt family favourites to be better with regards to my health issues, or to put less healthy options into perspective, as something to really enjoy once a fortnight or at a party. My husband has enjoyed trying the new dishes and once our youngest moves out he is happy to shift our dinners to more closely follow this plan.
However, the recipes are for varying numbers of people - from 1 to 18!
I live alone; most of the recipes are for more than 1 or 2; it's too much work to scale the rest down, as most have a lot of ingredients.
The index is not intuitive or helpful.
For instance, there's a heading for "beans" - but no recipes under that heading, in spite of the book containing several recipes involving beans.
One example - a recipe with green beans as the main ingredient is indexed under its name Fasolakia, and also under "dinner", and under "Vegetable and bean entrees" - but not simply under "beans" or "green", where you might look for it.
Pasta recipes come under "dinner", or the name of the dish, which you don't necessarily know - and not under "pasta". In fact, there's no "pasta" heading.
There are lovely full-page colour photos - but only of every third recipe.
Unfortunately, I won't be using this book much, if ever.
I wish I'd returned it, but it's too late now.
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to follow the Mediterranean diet
