ImportCDs.com delivered the Dazz Band Joystick + Jukebox CD within 2 days of shipping. Not only that it arrived in the mail box, just the way I like it. I really dread when packages are put on the doorstep unattended.
Now to the CD. I do not believe in vinyl records. Unfortunately I grew up buying vinyl, wasted a lot of money. The sound quality on vinyl is too harsh for me to enjoy the music that the artists intended. Now I just look for CDs. MP3s are just so so. Streaming is not for me, for I know what I like. Remember vinyl recordings need to be tweaked to increase what is missing, which are the high frequency. On vinyl the lows cannot go below 30 Hz. A CD represents the full 20Hz to 20KHz that a human being is capable of hearing. So on CD the music as intended. MP3 is compression, so the quality is sacrificed and some of the song is lost.
This is a two (2) album set. From the hit Let It Whip, which won a Grammy Award but tied with Earth Wind and Fire's Wanna Be with You, these are follow up to that success.
EWF, this is what influence the Dazz Band has. I understand Philip Bailey of EWF produced the Dazz Band's early albums and lent his falsetto in some of the songs. I searched and found it on the internet. That is why the Dazz Band has a similar falsetto background and lead singer, and also instrumental setup.
For the Joystick album, I really like Swoop (I'm Yours). When I heard it on the radio, it sounded great. But the vinyl just did not cut it. Too much harsh mids, missing highs and lows + distortion + pops/clicks, bad! Now with the CD, wow what I huge improvement. It sounds much better. I can now enjoy it after 29 years! Rock with Me is a swing type of song, a fast pace dance song.
For the Jukebox album, I bought the CD because Rolando Bautista, former member of Earth Wind and Fire, was featured. He has a unique Latino hyped guitar playing as is demonstrated in Keep You Coming' Back For More. I do not know anyone that plays guitar like that. He is also featured in Dream Girl on the right channel, playing solo and lead at the same time! It is similar to Something Special on the EWF Powerlight album. As you can tell I am a EWF fan, but only material before 1984! EWF lost their touch after that. Not to take away from the Dazz Band, Let It All Blow is a cool dance song that I really like.
I think after 1984 when EWF broke up, The Dazz Band did an awesome job of creating innovative and appealing music. But they lost steam after Wild and Free.
Thanks ImportCDs.com for bringing these memories back ready for the weekend!
