Edward R. Murrow High School Reviews

My experience had its highs and lows. On the positive side, there were a few standout teachers who went above and beyond to support students' academic and personal growth.
However, there were also significant challenges. At times, the environment felt unsafe due to frequent police activity in the area surrounding the school. Academically, there were shortcomings, limited resources available and a lack of SAT preparation programs. The absence of sports and the discontinuation of the one science program were disappointing and limited opportunities for students to explore their interests and talents.
I would hope to see increased resources for academic support, including SAT prep and extracurricular activities such as sports and science programs, would greatly enhance the overall experience for students. Overall, I believe that addressing these issues would contribute to a more positive and enriching educational experience for all students.

I like the overall performance of the school but I am concerned about the safety of my children due to several incidents of fighting and even a stabbing this school year. Metal detectors are not used often.
While attending Edward R. Murrow High School, I had a plethora of ups and downs that showed my education. When granted the opportunity to attend my school, which was highly respected by many in my community, I was filled with immense joy and pride in my accomplishments. However, upon my first in-person year at my high school, I was left feeling out of place and unsupported by a faculty that claimed to care for their students and education. My sophomore year of high school at this institution taught me the importance of teachers who are willing to do anything for your education. After being told by a teacher that I was a “waste of time,” my views on education changed drastically. After finding my academic interest slowly slipping in my junior year, I began to reflect on my decision in pure regret, knowing I could’ve been more. All in all, a change needs to be made within Edward R. Murrow High School for the sake of studies. This change should include stronger faculty support.
The best parts of going to Murrow is feeling like you belong somewhere through the various clubs and activities that are offered. Essentially when most events are student led and clubs are run by students who seek leadership roles in their topic of interest. The worst parts could be the occasional rudeness and lack of respect teachers monitoring the halls will give a student if they're in the halls without a hall pass and the closing of the bathrooms 10 minutes before and after classes.
I enjoyed the variety of clubs and after-school activities at this school. However, it is inconvenient how the bathrooms get locked since this causes long lines. As a result, if you try to go to the bathroom, you have to wait in line and miss a lot of class work.
To start school in 2020, was difficult because of interaction and also not visiting the school beforehand the school is huge, and I did get lost. However, over the years, I've been able to participate in many activities such as parts of their theater program which is a fun experience. And the resources provided by the school can tend to be very helpful.
If your wondering what time school starts for freshman then you've come to the right comment. So basically if you got accepted to be in Edward murrow then around when schools about to start, they will email you telling you what period=Band you will start.A Band=1st period=7:45am-8:33am.B Band=2nd=8:33am-9:21am
They took the vending machines limiting our food options which is something I would change and I feel like in the math department there isn't much help and the math teachers aren't really that helpful which is something I would also change
I feel that the school does need improvement when it comes to teachers, funding, and were they spend their funding. Many teachers don’t face consequences for their actions when it comes to something’s. But majority of the faculty this nice and ok.
The teachers were amazing, and the extracurricular activities helped students broaden their many interests.
Murrow is an ok school. They have a big music and theater program but even though they have almost four thousand kids they still can't field sports teams which is very unfortunate. The academic programs are good but I don't believe that the environment is right for me to thrive.
As I finish the last year and a half of my high school career there’s a lot to unpack. Edward R Murrow high school has been a place where i’ve easily been able to connect with others and I was able to find my group of people among the hundreds of students in the grade. However, with the students that fill the walls with laughter and joy there are parts of the school that we all struggled with. Personally speaking I found it very hard to cohere with most teachers on an emotional level. I never had that one teacher I would always go to, to talk about my day or someone to confide in my problems. Some students that don’t value their academic career seem to ruin it for others, with things like fighting in the halls and continuous bickering back and forth. There are times where I’ve felt unsafe around certain people but i’ve also learned to live around it and be able to separate myself around specific crowds. Overall, Murrow has been the most stressful but also joyful years of my life.
My experience with Edward R. Murrow has been pretty mixed. The best parts about it is that I get a lot of help from the teachers and staff from things like helping me do my work or helping me pick out which colleges I want to go to and applying for scholarships. But one of the worst parts of it is not being allowed to go to the bathroom 10 minutes before and after the beginning of the period. Not only that, only one student is allowed to go to the bathroom at a time. I understand it is to prevent students from skipping classes, but there would always be a long line for the bathroom and would not get the chance to use it.
Attending Edward R. Murrow High School had a large impact on my life and getting me ready for college, and the outside world. The School is huge, so it takes time to adjust and understand the building, the food is terrible but you can't expect much from NYC school lunch, the one thing about this school is its safety risk. Even though the school staff has a large amount of deans, with the amount of fights I had witnessed and heard about even before attending the school, I'd say the school needs new strategies or systems to prevent fights.
Edward R. Murrow High School is a overall good school with resources for students and extracurricular activities that have a great impact for students. With clubs, sports, and classes for students to be involved in there's also a lack of those activities that can be added but with the difficulty to find faculties with the time and want to be an advisor the start of making one can be hard. There are many teachers who want students to learn and it's a great environment and feel when it comes to finding someone who understand you. The school itself in safety can be improved with there being many fights and the lack of faculty being involved to stop these fight or dangerous event. Overall the school is a environment that one wants to be in but can be improved in areas.
I feel like Edward R Murrow HS is perfect for me. I feel like the energy is perfect for me and most of the students and teachers are supportive, accepting and kind. However, I hope to see more clubs and other extracurricular activities in this school that brings everyone together, such as the plays that we have. Although this is only my second year, I genuinely love this school and I cannot see myself going to any other high school. It is also overall very convenient for me as I live close to the school.
it was a very positive experience overall while I'm looking forward to make it to a good college in the state of New York where I live
