I wanted somewhere magical and super romantic for my partners birthday suprise..and that's just what we got.
We stayed for 3 nights in the "Ap Gruffydd" room ( we highly recommended it)
The Castle has been renovated to such a beautiful standard, certain parts have been left to remind us of its history dating back to the 12th century. This Castle is Super clean, tidy and very comfortable. Our room was huge, but with cosy elements all around.
Super helpful, kind and professional. Whatever we needed the staff were there to help.
Roche castle only provides breakfast but what a breakfast this is! Not to be missed. The castle also has it's own " Honesty Bar" where you can help yourself to drinks & snacks. simply leave a note what you've taken ( the castle isnt staffed over night so there are times where we had the castle all to ourselves)
Evening meal at Twr Y Felin Hotel: This is about a 20min ride ( provided by the castle ) to a small Town called St David's... the restaurant is stunning!! The food is pricey but for special occasions we just had to go. It's a very contemporary, upmarket high end establishment where the food and service is beyond 5star. Highly recommend.
I just cannot say enough about Roche Castle. With so much to see and do, this place is a MUST if your looking for somewhere to explore the outdoors, take in the history or to simply relax and unwind in the most beautiful hotel we have " EVER STAYED IN"
We would like to say a Special "Thankyou" to all the staff at Roche Castle for making my partners birthday surprise so memorable. We will definitely return again to relive the beauty not only of Roche Castle but of Wales itself.
Thankyou from Keisha & Craig from Cornwall

Our recent stay at the castle exceeded our expectations (and they were high). The decor is modern, spotlessly clean and more importantly, very comfortable. There were many points of interest within the castle to investigate, with several seating areas boasting sea and country views. There are hot drink facilities in the communal area as well as in the rooms, in addition to a honesty bar that displayed a big variety of alcoholic beverages and snacks. Our room had a super king bed that was very comfortable and the bath was the biggest i have ever seen. I loved the wooden shutters at the windows that could be closed to completely block out the light . The food served at the Castle and at Twr y Felin was outstanding and the staff at both sites were very attentive and friendly. We both thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and loved being King and Queen of Castle for a night. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone

Dear WalesMidwife, Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us at Roch Castle and for taking advantage of the fine dining opportunity at our sister property restaurant, Blas. Thank you for giving such a detailed overview of your stay at Roch Castle for future guests to learn from such mentioning our honesty bar in the Sun Room. Most of all, we are thrilled that we exceeded your expectations of staying a 12th Century Castle. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future! Lot of effort put into designing the castle refurbishment with many quality touches. Superb breakfasts. Lunch and dinner are not available there but sister restaurant Blas is not bad though we somewhat preferred Gin and Kitchen at half the price. Be aware: no lifts and lots of stairs! Be wary of bathroom sliding doors which can be a threat to finger tips when sliding right back into the recesses. Lovely views from Ap Gryffydd room. Two metre walls ensure complete quiet. Huge bath which might seem luxurious but is hardly eco-friendly. Overall we had a really great stay.

Booked a one night stay in this unique accommodation. The interior aesthetic is modern, not too many nods to remind you you're in a castle, however it is very nice and the narrow staircases give a castle feel. We stayed at the top. Very nice spacious room (called Lucy Walter). Theres no staff after 7pm. Tea, coffee, milk in fridge etc are included in room and in a communal space there are snacks, various soft drinks, more coffee etc and a wine fridge. Barr the coffee these all cost extra and rely on guests being honest when they checkout. A nice touch. Can't fault our stay, nice breakfast, friendly professional staff. Only minor disappointment was not being able to go out to the very top of the tower. There is a glass door so you can see it but it's locked and marked no entry. I'm sure there's a good reason mind so not a big deal. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will recommend to others.

Wow we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us! We are so sorry we were unable to grant you access to the roof but sadly health and safety would be very unhappy with us if we allowed people up there, as it is unsafe. We hope to welcome you back one day in the future and remember repeat guests get preferential rates! Cofion Cynnes, Adelle Sutherland, Roch Castle Manager.

We stayed 3 nights in Roch Castle. We have no complaints, only compliments. Spectacular building, tastefully and expertly renovated. We stayed in Ap Gruffydd, which is a large room with a comfortable super king bed, very quiet and dark at night. Supersized bath and shower with lovely toiletries. Nice touches include a little welcome card from the team, fresh milk in a very quiet fridge in the room, a well stocked courtesy tray and a surprise bottle of wine for my birthday. Breakfast was excellent, everything you would expect. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. My only disappointment was not finding the Study and its wealth of reading material until it was too late to enjoy it. There are steps so don’t come to stay in a medieval fortress and not be prepared to climb them.

We had a really lovely few days, we would have liked to have extended our stay if we could. Friendly and helpful team, clean and comfortable room, in a beautifully renovated castle. Good quality and choice of breakfast. It was a lovely experience. We were extra lucky in that we were one of only two couples staying and we really only saw them at breakfast, meaning once the staff went home in the evening we very much felt like we had the castle to ourselves. We really enjoyed the lounge and sunroom space and honesty bar, it was a well stocked and nice offering for a quiet evening after a day of exploring and dinner. We were slightly disappointed that the room we believed we had booked that was higher and had a sea view from bed, we had been moved out of due to work being done on the roof. BUT the room we were given instead was lovely and we ended up spending less time in there anyway because of the access to the lounge space.

The castle is a great base to explore from. We really enjoyed our time in Tenby, St. David’s and walking along the coastline.

Our only point we wished we’d known was the cost of taxi to and from the castle to the sister hotel for the Blas Restaurant. For a 13 minute journey each way it cost us a total of £60. Ridiculous cost. We thought it was £30 total when we booked a return pick up, and felt unable to challenge when we were brought home. We had a nice evening but should have just driven ourselves as we didn’t drink anywhere near enough for it to be worth it. We have heard that there used to be transport between the hotels included to visit the restaurant but that it’s been stopped. A shame! A lovely taxi driver, nothing against the journey or service, just a super high cost for such a short journey when recommended by the hotel.

Overall we absolutely recommend a stay here and will very likely return and bring friends/family. We’ll just not use taxi’s! :)

We are overjoyed that you had a lovely time whilst staying with us her at Roch Castle, and we thank you for your patience in accepting the room upgrade due to the roof works at the time of your stay. Thank you for your comment about the taxi cost, unfortunately this is something we cannot change and is the standard price here in Pembrokeshire however, we will endeavour to find new companies to use or see if we may get a special rate for our guests for future journeys. This place is clean and quiet, a lovely location and a great stay. I stayed for 2 nights in Sept 2022. The drive up to the Castle has electric gates, press the button and the gates open. There is plenty of parking and electric charging points for those with electric vehicles. The entrance to the castle is via stone steps (there are loads of stairs here and no lifts, be warned). The welcome from the staff was amazing, our bags were taken to our room, while we were showed around the property and the facilities (there are limited facilities, it’s not a hotel). The room (St Brides) was small on the lower floors (views are better from higher rooms), but very clean and comfortable, the bathroom was great with a lovely big shower. The place immediately felt relaxing, made even better by the relaxing piano music being played.
Breakfast was really good, with cold and hot food choices (avoid the pancakes though they were a real let down), choice of Orange or Apple Juice and Tea and Coffee how you like it. Again, the service was excellent.
There is a mini fridge in the room, with bottled water and fresh milk, and a coffee machine. There is tea and coffee and biscuits provided in your room, and if you run out, they are happy to supply more.
There is not much around the area of the castle, but plenty of lovely walks a short drive away and other places to see. There is no on-site restaurant and only an honesty bar, a nice touch but lacks the entertainment space of a hotel.

Overall, we had a fantastic time, the place is amazing and very relaxing with staff who always want to ensure you have the best stay.

Thank you so much.

Just returned from 4 nights at Roch Castle and believe me, I’d still be there if I could be, just didn’t want to leave! The hotel is top notch, very tasteful in decor, comfortable and welcoming, plenty of places within the hotel to sit, relax and enjoy being the Lord or lady of the castle, you simply have enough space to feel like you have the place all to yourself (if you want that) alternatively, head for the sun room and enjoy the panoramic views of the Pembrokeshire coast, the castle grounds and surrounding countryside, in the company of fellow travellers, sample a drink from the honesty bar (well stocked) and swap tales of the days adventures.

The bedrooms are sumptuous, again very relaxing and tasteful in decor, the bathrooms luxurious-it’s pure indulgence 😉
There’s plenty of choice when it comes to breakfast, locally sourced fare, served by a team of amazing staff, Adele, Lilly - you are a credit to the hotel, nothing is too much trouble, always smiling, always attentive to the guests and a font of local knowledge.
Roch Castle, I cannot recommend highly enough, it’s just an awesome experience and we will definitely be coming back to see you guys again, thanks for making our stay so memorable.

Wonderful stay in the Lucy Walters room. Seeing the castle from the distance was stunning and the inside was even more impressive. It was luxurious, great service, beautiful artwork, lovely breakfast. I stayed as a girlie weekend with 14 year old niece and we both loved it. A treatment with Fey is an absolute must and in our case this was a bespoke massage. There are loads of narrow steps inside so you have to be mobile but it is worth it. Eating out in the evenings you really have to drive somewhere. we walked to the Victoria Inn nearby and weren't impressed but a short drive to the Duke of Edinburgh in Gleneagles was a delight with tasty steaks, a lively atmosphere and a dream caramel sundae.

Thank you for highlighting that as 12th Century castle, built on igneous rock, Roch Castle does indeed have many flights of steep stairs, specifically when choosing to stay at the top of the castle as your did. It is also so helpful of your to highlight that Roch Castle is a great base to explore the only coast la National Park by car. For those guests who wish to explore by foot, we recommend our sister 5 star Guest Accommodation Penrhiw Priory located iin the smallest city in Britain - St Davids. Also in St Davids is our 4 star Hotel Twr y Felin (Windmill Tower), which is fully serviced with its own bar/lounge and a 3 Rosette fine dining Restaurant named Blas. Splurged for one night at this amazing place.
Fairly easy to find and with enough parking.
Superior amenities with some relax and chat space on one complete floor that includes a small bar (wine, spirits, beers and ciders).
We booked through "Celtic Castles" website; easy to do and they replied quickly with a confirmation.
Please note that there are many stairs to get to your room and some rooms get an extra spiral staircase that is narrow. Keep your big suitcase in the car and bring a small bag (or two).
Breakfast was great, with a choice of continental or cook to order options.
Umbrellas and torches are available if you want to venture out in the elements (we ended up having dinner at a local pub, the Victoria Inn, about 10min walk from the castle).
During our stay, 4 out of 6 rooms were occupied (we got upgraded!). Staff was friendly and professional. They leave the castle after 19:00 to return the next morning to prepare breakfast... so the guests are "alone" at night... or are they?
