The bed was very comfortable, as were the pillows .
The room was clean.
Air con was cold .
Pool nice.

Yes the premises could do with a sympathetic refurbishment , I did however appreciate the original features in the bathroom particularly. Some clever and inexpensive refurb could make it lovely .
Breakfast was in honesty pointless, there was all but nothing there, the addition of a toaster could improve this or a waffle machine like what you get in other motel types . Road was quite noisy outside but I have ear plugs lol. We had no issues with “rude staff” as other reviews mention, perhaps these patrons were being a little demanding or picky for the type of property it is. All in all completely adequate for one nights stay .

I had a confirmed reservation but when the manager/ owner saw that I came by bike he immediately cancelled my reservation even though I agreed to keep it outside the room with a lock he offered.
He was completely unwilling to reconsider, even a phone call with Expedia/ Orbitz customer service could not persuade him. He left me stranded at night as a female solo biker, exhausted from just having pedaled 90 miles, and knew that all other hotels around his were sold out or would be $300+ per night.
Do not book, manager is unreasonable.

I can’t tell you much about the inside of the hotel except for the lobby area. Unfortunately, we did not have a great experience, but thankfully, the hotel did come through with the refund that they promised. I will give them kudos for that even though it took them a month instead of the promised 5 to 7 business days, but they did get us a refund so that’s what’s important.
Our experience went as such. We almost missed the hotel due to its location and the amount of traffic right outside of the hotel. We did finally make a U-turn and come back to find it and parked, we went into the lobby area. While walking to the lobby area, we did notice that things did not match up to some of the photos online. That is the photos by the hotel. This hotel needs some tender loving care. When we did enter the lobby area we noticed that it appeared to be maybe under construction. And that there was no offerings in the lobby as pictured such as Snacks, drinks, bar, etc. There was a loveseat covered with a blanket and torn up walls. There was a tour guide bulletin holder. We walk up to the counter and we are immediately greeted by the lady with “do you smoke? “wellhello and yes, we are smokers. We explained that we knew there were non-smoking rooms and that we would not smoke in the rooms. She said you will not be happy here you need to go somewhere else. We were a bit confused. she pointed to the loveseat and said do you see the gentleman on the couch, he is looking for another place to stay because his party smokes as well. She said we are a non-smoking hotel. Again we were confused and explain we would not smoke in the hotel and she said it does not matter. Do you want to refund. So we accepted and here we are. No lies about the conditions just facts. Needless to say we would not recommend this hotel.

Everywhere is expensive in the Keys and although this is One of the cheaper options for the keys, it’s still way too much: Very dated and smelly rooms: Very surly front office guy who just was not pleasant to deal with at all. Pool was full of leaves, complimentary breakfast was an insult and the bath paint was peeling off so couldn’t have a bath (covered with a bath mat in the hope one wouldn’t notice). All this for a bargain $160!!!
I would give this - and Key Largo which is also a non-event and can be seen in a few hours- a miss and just head straight south to the prettier keys and to Key West which is the real star of the show for the Keys.

After reading all of the negative reviews, I almost didn’t book a room here, but am very glad I did!! I approached the stay as the 2 star out of 5 rating that it is, knowing that I’m saving over $250/night which was important to us. If you are looking for luxury and a Hilton-style atmosphere, don’t stay here and don’t put down the good people who are providing a great, affordable option to visitors like me!
That said, every staff member was extremely friendly and helpful; the room was very clean (no bugs!), bed was extremely comfortable, a/c modern, quiet and very cool; “continental” breakfast was good, as was the coffee; loved the metal fish decor, refreshing pool, palm trees/birds of paradise, comfortable chairs; location to bars/restaurant/sightseeing excellent; lots of free parking;
Yes, it is by a busy road, some updating of paint/trim could enhance the ambiance, but it is an older inn and it is very functional and well lit, not dingy or disgusting as several reviewers wrote. I can tell that the owner takes pride in the inn, and may not have the funds to update it. We will definitely stay here again!!

We checked into the hotel on 1/16/20 for two nights. The clerk checking in announced in a very unwelcoming and unfriendly way that smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property, without being asked. Mind you some of our friends do smoke occasionally but never anywhere prohibited. So we asked where the smoking area is and were again told in no uncertain terms that there was no smoking on any part of the property and smokers would have to go to the alley behind the hotel.
We then went to the room. It was like stepping back into last century, about 1975, without much updating. Cracks in the paint, lime green tiles, a blow dryer from the fifties, peeling paint on doors, etc. I made some pics:

Don’t stay here. We booked thru Hot Wire and we’re able to get a refund. This place is out of Psyco! Poorly lit, rotted moldings in room. Hotwire said 3 stars, i say one. The ice was in an igloo cooler in the office which closed at 10:30. Awful. Felt like a prison.

We booked a 1 night stay with the Key Largo Inn for June 21st. On June 19th we called to cancel the reservation because we were not able to make it. This was 48 hours in advance of the reservation, and according to the hotel’s policy, a full refund should be granted. We were extremely upset to be told by the hotel that we would not be receiving a refund. We pleaded with them to understand, but they were rude and unwilling to change their minds even though we cancelled in advance. We will be disputing the charge with American Express.

The good news: the air conditioner, which kicks on often because it's old & inefficient, mostly drowns out the all-night traffic noise. The rest of the news: dry rot, stained linens, delayed (or completely ignored) maintenance. The owner has been here a long time, which manifests as surly, unreasonable, inhospitable & rude. (That's the good points.) Certainly no one needs ice after 10:30pm (or whenever before then it's all melted in the cooler in the office), a towel bar in the shower, or clean floors.

Out of desperation for a room on a Saturday night, we booked here. We would never voluntarily do it again. The owner was rude at check-in, the room was dingy and in need of updating, the area was poorly lit, the lock on the door barely worked. Oh year, we paid $175 for this misery! Other than that it was just wonderful. Keep driving!
