Archibald Constable, Westminster, 1895 How it was written Prior its publication, a short piece on The Shoulder of Shasta appeared in the December 23, 1894 issue of The Inter Ocean, Chicago. According to this article, "Mr. Stoker is also engaged on an Indian story, which must have been suggested by his friendship for Thomas Donaldson, of Philadelphia, the Indian expert of the eleventh census. Certainly reports from every know tribe of the North American Indians, illustrated by 2,000 photographs, would be of value to guide a writer of fiction, no matter how gifted." New Cheaper Edition According to an add placed in the June 15, 1898 issue of The Guardian, London, Archibald Constable & Co. released a cheaper edition of this novel in that year.
