Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Announce Final Tour Celebrating Nearly 60 Years of Music

GRAMMY Award-winning Nitty Gritty Dirt Band announced plans to embark on a final tour early Tuesday morning. 

A Tour To Celebrate Nearly Six Decades Of Music

Kicking off on March 21, 2023, the All The Good Times: The Farewell Tour will bring the “Fishin’ In The Dark” singers to various cities around the U.S., including Houston, TX, Indianapolis, IN, and Knoxville, TN, through September 14. This trek will celebrate the band’s nearly 60 years of music-making. 

“‘All The Good Times’ perfectly describes our career,” Nitty Gritty Dirt Band shared in a statement. “Playing our music for Dirt Band fans all over the world has been an incredible experience for us. The most important part of that has been the connection to our audience—that beautiful communal give and take is like nothing else. That’s the very spirit we’ll be celebrating as we head into our farewell tour. We’re really looking forward to seeing you folks. Good times will be had by all!”

The band promises that this is not goodbye forever, but a farewell to the long, multi-city tours that they have become accustomed to over the years. Additional dates may be added to the trek and the full list of dates for the first leg are included below. Tickets for the majority of shows can be purchased beginning Friday, Jan. 19 at 10 am local time. The band is also offering VIP packages for the bulk of the just-announced tour dates. 

Who Is The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band?

Featuring a compelling lineup that includes founding members Jeff Hanna (lead vocals, guitar) and Jimmie Fadden (drums, harmonica, vocals), along with longtime bandmate Bob Carpenter (keys, vocals), a member since 1980, as well as Jim Photoglo (bass, vocals), Jaime Hanna (guitar, vocals), and Ross Holmes (fiddle, mandolin, vocals), The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band stands as one of the most accomplished bands in American roots music. Originating as a jug band in Southern California in 1966, they evolved into a cornerstone of the country-rock scene by 1969. The breakthrough came in 1970 with the release of “Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy” and the hit single, “Mr. Bojangles.” Noteworthy collaborations followed, including the groundbreaking “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” series in 1972, featuring renowned bluegrass, country, and folk artists. Achieving success on the U.S. Country charts with hits like “Fishin’ In The Dark,” “Modern Day Romance,” and “Long Hard Road,” The Dirt Band has earned GRAMMY, CMA, and IBMA Awards. Their PBS special, “Nitty Gritty Dirt Band & Friends – Fifty Years, Circlin’ Back!” won an Emmy Award. Their latest album, “Dirt Does Dylan,” released in 2022, has garnered widespread critical acclaim.
