A subreddit dedicated to determining if a website, email, correspondence, or anything else is a scam.
A friend applied online for this company called SWMT Model Agency, so far they haven't called back but I did some research and couldn't find anything that wasn't really posted on their own social media, no outside reviews or anything. Anyone knows if this looks like a scam or not or if I'm just being paranoid? This is their website: http://www.barbizonsouthwest.com/index.php

Looks like they are Barbizon modeling hiding behind a new name. 2 of their "other locations" addresses , come up as barbizon, 1 comes up as a home healthcare agency with posts on fb as of last month so it seems to be a current address for them. Their website and email confirms this is Barbizon. In case you arent familiar , Barbizon is a well known "agency" who recruits wanna be models and actors to take "classes" , these cost anywhere from $1200-1700 , they promise you jobs after the classes but for most it never materializes . The reviews on google confirm they are still doing this exact same scam.

That name sounds familiar. I'd swear we saw it on this sub very recently. Kudos to u/bombchellez for the research they did. Give them an upvote! It's a scam in that they push people to buy "services" and "classes". It's very easy to get suckered into one of these situations because they'll push it on you at the end of a long and draining day and it's very easy to accidentally agree to something that's going to cost you a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars. Model or talent agencies are common vectors for scams because of how desperately some people want to be famous.
Thanks as well. I already felt something wrong with it and seemed sketchy enough but I needed help finding more information about it and to have other opinions to show my friend is not just me being a conspiracy theorist lol
This isa talent agency however beware of them. They say you can cancel but in fine writing there is a deadline after the fourth class. My daughter took NO classes and tried to cancel but would not let her. She should have been able to go to at least one class to decide but couldn't get into town from her college town in time. Very shady company policy!
Be very cautious. My daughter signed up but in the contract in fine print she had 4 classes to cancel. She wasn't able to drive down from her college 2 hours away & never got to one class. They would not let her cancel & charged her the full contract of thousands of dollars for no services. Verbally it sounds great...sure you can cancel but no one gave it a date just an amount of classes. She did zero classes and still could not cancel! Find a more reputable company...you'll do great!
