I catch a lot more nuance to the story now that I'm a grown-up. As a kid, it was sweet, funny and a touch rebellious. I grew up Baptist so it was funny to read a book with such "naughty" villains. You might not believe such an adventure could happen, but after all, "Ollie had a sprouted pussywillow growing out of his ear and the school nurse even said it was true!"
