Description
Our Interpreting and Using Foreshadowing lesson plan teaches students strategies for identifying and interpreting foreshadowing in writing as well as how to incorporate it into their own writing. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a partner to write four parts of a story; they then switch with another pair of students and write the foreshadowing for the other pair’s story parts, using four different types of foreshadowing (direct, indirect, prophecy, and symbolism). Students are also asked to read and interpret examples of foreshadowing and tell what they think that sentence could be foreshadowing in a piece of writing.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify and interpret foreshadowing as it’s used by authors in stories and other text and give examples of foreshadowing and its meaning.
