When I attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, my experience was mixed. The student services were disappointing, failing to meet my expectations in terms of support and guidance. This lack of assistance made my time there challenging and less enjoyable. However, despite these difficulties, the institute provided excellent graduate opportunities. The connections and career prospects available to graduates were outstanding, ultimately helping me to secure a promising position in the fashion industry. While my time at the institute was not without its struggles, the post-graduate benefits made it worthwhile.
I think that the curriculum matches our major well, and I feel like I’m learning valuable information, however the teachers have been a big issue for me. Don’t get me wrong, there have been some great teachers, but some are fully not educated in the subject they are teaching, almost to the point where I feel like I can teach better than them. Not only that, but some teachers are just painfully rude. I also think that the school does not properly inform us on when deadlines for payment/registration/events occur so it makes it difficult to be proactive. Especially with the new merge with ASU, most students are weary of how things will change as most of the staff is confused as well. To put in this much money, I feel like things are definitely not up to the standard that I expected. However, I will say, that with the great teachers I’ve had have made me feel good about the path I’ve chosen in staying at this school till I graduate. Great teachers make this school for sure.
FIDM is really shady. They got rid of over 15+ majors without telling students or faculty until the 2nd week of the spring quarter. For the first meeting regarding the new changes, the dean spoke about his bowtie for an entire hour. For the majors that are discounting, we are required to finish our AA/BA by next spring otherwise we won't be able to graduate at all. It's unsafe how they reeled students in, into thinking they actually care about our education and wellbeing, when they only care about the money. Not only do they showcase the greed with students but with teachers as well. Many teachers who have been with this school for over a decade will now be fired due to the fact of them signing an ASU x FIDM contract.
They promote, ethical fashion yet proceed to have a partnership with SHEIN on scholarships for students. This college is full of crap and I regret attending here. Even trying to transfer is difficult, when my credits due to this school are not considered accredited.
