His Mother Was Murdered
Darrin Medley’s mother Karen Klaas was killed. She was beaten, raped, and murdered. She got attacked at her home and her neighbors found her. She was strangled with her pantyhose in her home in Hermosa Beach, California, and left unconscious.

Karen Klaas was hospitalized and in a coma for five days before dying. She took her last breath in 1976 when she was at the age of 32 years. Bill Medley took time off his music career to look after his then 10-year-old son Darrin Medley.
After Karen Klaas’ demise, several decades later, authorities with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified her alleged killer as Kenneth Troyer. The sheriff’s department revealed that the case “was solved through the use of familial DNA, which identified the killer”.
Kenneth Troyer was a sex offender and fugitive killed by police in 1982. He was a suspect in executing different other sexual assaults in California and ended up shot and killed by police after escaping from a California prison in the year 1982.
