Fisher Stevens Admits to Being Rude Guest Star on 'Friends'

During its 10-year run, Friends had numerous guest stars studded throughout its episodes. Most of the guests were only too happy to turn up on set: but 80s star Fisher Stevens wasn't one of them.

This came out after Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green, opened up about one unnamed actor in an appearance on The Howard Stern Show.

While speaking to Howard Stern, Aniston spoke of a guest star who thought they were "above" the show, which did not impress her.

She said: "It was as if they were just too 'above' this, to be on a sitcom.

"And I remember when we were doing a network run-through, the network and the producers would just laugh.

"And this person would be like, 'Listen to them, just laughing at their own jokes. So stupid, not even funny.'

Aniston went on to say she questioned the actor's behavior, wondering why they were acting badly considering the good atmosphere on set.

Despite this, Aniston did admit the actor, who she did not name, apologized about their behavior some time after their appearance, claiming it was to do with their nerves.

In February, on an episode of PeopleTV's Couch Surfing, Stevens admitted to some "bad" behavior as a guest star, and apologized to the Friends gang.

He also explained the reason for his behavior, saying: "At that moment in my career, I had never done a sitcom before.

"I had never heard of Friends because it was just the beginning of the show and I didn't watch TV at the time much."

Stevens went on to describe how he had learned his lines from a script that, when he arrived on set, had been completely changed, which caused him a great deal of frustration.

He questioned the changes on set, and his having to relearn lines on set, suggesting the cast would have seen him as a "New York snob."

He apologized to the cast members for his actions on the show, just as Aniston had said, calling his actions "bad" and "wrong."

Stevens appeared in the thirteenth episode of the first season, The One With The Boobies, where he played Phoebe Buffay's (played by Lisa Kudrow) psychiatrist boyfriend who rubs the rest of the gang up the wrong way with his psychoanalysis.

Their relationship did not last longer than the length of the episode, so Stevens only appeared for a short while in the series.
