Columbus High School is a college preparatory magnet school and ranks among the best high schools in the state and in the country (see U.S. News and World Report, May, 2017, http://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/georgia/rankings. ( see Newsweek, 2017, http://www.newsweek.com/2013/05/06/america-s-best-high-schools.html)The school stands out in its commitment to the college-bound student. Its liberal arts college preparatory program is designed to develop a well-rounded student by offering a wide range of advanced college preparatory courses in English, mathematics, social studies, science, foreign language, computers, and fine arts. Students are expected to take courses in all areas through a core curriculum that is compacted, accelerated, and that exceeds state standards. The curriculum has the flexibility, however, to meet individual academic goals and interests. Individual interests are met through diverse elective offerings, gifted classes, 32 Advanced Placement Courses, and the opportunity for students to develop an academic concentration in an area of their interest ranging from mathematics and science to English or the fine arts.

Columbus High School is one of only two schools outside Metro Atlanta to attain the distinction of being named an AP Capstone School. 1 of less than 1000 in the world!
