"I've been an idiot about so many things. I've been stuck trying to fix the past, but you are the most important thing in the world to me, and I promise you I'm gonna do better."
―Mike Schmidt to Abby Schmidt[src]

Michael "Mike" Schmidt is the former security guard of the abandoned Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location. After being traumatized by the kidnapping of his younger brother Garrett Schmidt and the fate of his parents, Mike was left alone to take care of his younger sister Abby Schmidt. After being fired from multiple jobs, including a mall security guard, he was offered the night security job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Place and became the new night guard.

After meeting Vanessa Shelly, Mike discovered the truth about the old restaurant and the decades-old incident. He also became aware of the animatronics' sentience through Abby’s friendship with them. In a final confrontation with William Afton, Mike learned that Afton was responsible for his brother's abduction. With the assistance of Vanessa, Abby, and the animatronics, they subdued Afton using his suit’s springlocks and took him away. Mike then took Vanessa to the hospital to aid in her recovery from her injuries.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Michael Schmidt was born in 1975 to Mr. Schmidt and Mrs. Schmidt. He also grew up with his younger brother Garrett Schmidt. The family would hold hands and say grace when having family dinner, despite Mike thinking of it as cheesy. In 1987, during a camping trip in Nebraska, Mike witnessed Garrett being kidnapped by an unknown man and taken away in his car.

After his sister Abby Schmidt was born in 1990, Mike became her sole caregiver following their mother's death and their father's abandonment. He worked briefly as a sales associate at Tire Zone for two months before being fired, then as custodial staff at Media World for a week before facing termination again. Eventually, Mike found stability as a security guard at the local mall.[1]

Getting Fired Again[]

On April 5th, 2000, during his shift, Mike chatted with his friend Jeremiah while reading from his book "Dream Theory." After reading a portion of it, Jeremiah asked if Mike believed in its contents. Mike replied that belief depended on the individual. Jeremiah then told a story about how he traded a Cal Ripken Jr. Rookie baseball card for a used copy of Missile Command and wished he could go back and kick is own ass. He then asked Mike if he could have the book, but Mike declined.

While waiting in line for ice cream, Mike noticed a young boy standing alone. As he went to order, he saw a man leading the kid away. Triggered by memories of his brother's abduction, Mike rushed towards them, tackling the man and falling into a fountain. In a blind rage, he began attacking the man until the boy shouted for his dad. Realizing his mistake, Mike was stopped by Jeremiah. Later, Mike was fired for his violent behavior.

A New Security Gig[]

Employment[]

The next day, once again unemployed, Mike decided to see a career counselor for help. While getting dressed, he found Abby in a fort she made. He called for her, shook the fort for attention, and told her they were leaving soon. As he left, Abby threw a stuffed animal at him. Mike then reminding her of his departure.

After dropping Abby at school, Mike headed to the career counselor's office, where he waited until he was called into Steve Raglan’s office. Raglan, after reading Mike’s file, questioned him, asking if he was a "headcase" due to the incident at the mall. Mike defended himself, calling it an accident. When Raglan froze upon reading Mike’s full name, he offered coffee, confusing Mike. After pouring himself a cup, Raglan informed Mike of his limited options. As Mike began to leave in despair, Raglan mentioned a security job, prompting Mike to sit back down to hear more about it.

After learning about the low pay, Mike attempted to leave, but Raglan gave him his business card in case he changed his mind. Mike drove home, found a delinquency notice on the door, and brought it inside. He thanked Abby's babysitter, Max, and checked on Abby, who was drawing in her room. Despite his efforts, Abby refused to eat, frustrating Mike. As he took off his tie, Abby said he was sitting on her friend, to which Mike responded indifferently. When Mike mentioned not eating wouldn't make her grow, Abby's friend called him an idiot, prompting Mike to assert his reality compared to the imaginary friend.
