LEAWOOD. A SPECIAL MOMENT FOR THE KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE DISTRICT AND THE SOUTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI CLASS OF 1967 READ DEDICATED. IT’S HISTORICAL MONUMENT OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL IN HONOR OF A BELOVED TRACK COACH LOUIS HOUSE. THE MEMORIAL HAS BEEN OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL FOR 70 YEARS AND HAD FALLEN INTO DISREPAIR. SO SOME ALUMNI REACHED OUT TO GET THE REDEDICATION PROCESS UNDERWAY. IT’S BEEN MANY MONTHS AND MANY MEETINGS IN ORDER TO BRING THIS ALL TOGETHER. BUT THE MONUMENT IS GORGEOUS. THE RENOVATION IS JUST SPECTACULAR AND PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO FIND IT. NOW. THE MEMORIAL FEATURES STONEWORK FROM THE ORIGINAL 1791 WHITE HOUSE IN WASHINGTON, D.C. SOUTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL. GOT THE STONEWORK FROM PRESIDENT HARRY TRUMAN WHEN HE ENTERED THE WHITE HOUSE IN 1945. YOU RENOVATE THE BUILDING. HE THEN SENT T

Rededication ceremony held for Southwest High School’s historical monument
The Kansas City, Mo., Public Schools District and the Southwest High School’s Class of 1967 rededicated a historic monument on Thursday. The monument is in honor of beloved track coach Louis House. It was located outside of the school, but had fallen into some disrepair in recent years. So, alumni reached out to get the rededication process underway. “It's been many months and many meetings in order to bring this all together,” said Pat Titterington, a member of the Class of 1967. “But the monument is gorgeous. The renovation is just spectacular and people will be able to find it now.” The memorial features stonework from the original 1791 White House in Washington D.C. Southwest High School got the stone work from Independence’s own Harry Truman. When President Truman entered the White House in 1945, he renovated the building. Stones were sent to various agencies and schools across the country.
