Wednesday 29th May and we travelled on board Tui Flight Tom 085 from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic to Gatwick, London. We were scheduled to depart at 17.35 (local time) and arrive at 06.50 am on the 30th, UK is five hours ahead, so an 8 hours thirty-five minutes flight. Boarding was due to commence at 16.50, however, we started boarding at 17.05 when we were bussed out to aircraft. This process was completed at 17.42 the doors closed and the aircraft pushed back at 17.50. We were airborne over ten minutes later which was just short of thirty minutes later than scheduled. As we were travelling in the Premium Cabin we were offered a glass of orange juice or sparkling wine before take off. Once on board the aircraft there was a small blanket, pillow, headphones and bottle of water waiting for us on our seats. Just after take-off there was a bit of turbulence so seat belt sign switched on so first drinks round was delayed for a short while. The Captain introduced himself and the Crew and informed us that the flight time would be eight hours and fifteen minutes. Prior to the drinks being served, the menu cards were handed out and the main course options consisted of sweet and sticky chicken Teriyaki with rice, Daube stew of beef with skin on roast potatoes or chestnut mushrooms, stroganoff style topped with mashed potatoes. Ninety minutes into the flight our food orders were taken, we both went for the beef option. The mushroom option had run out by the time the service had got to the row in front of us, they did say they could get a vegetable lasagne if need. Roughly half an hour later food was served with a choice of wines. We were pleasantly surprised with the food as the beef was tender and tasty. This was followed by a choice of tea or coffee and a Baileys or a brandy. This was followed by a quick whizz through the cabin selling duty-free goods. Another drinks round followed and the cabin lights dimmed, as this was deemed to be a night flight With about one hour before landing, the lights were turned up and breakfast was served. It was called an English breakfast which consisted of omelette, sausage, bacon, beans and mushrooms, this was accompanied by a croissant. Not a fan of Airline breakfasts, omelettes yuk, bacon and beans were okay. Through out the flight we were looked after very well by a really nice lady, Claire. We landed at 06.45, a couple of minutes early.…
