Lucero Hogaza León was born on 29 August 1969. She is also known simply as Lucero. Lucero is a Mexican singer, actress, songwriter, and television host. She is a multi-platinum singer in Mexico and has sung in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.

Lucero has sold more than 30 million records worldwide. She is often referred to as La Novia de América (“The Girlfriend of The Americas”). She has been the hostess of the Latin Grammy Awards on eight occasions. In the article are the top ten facts about Mexican singer Lucero.

1. She starred in Alegrias de Mediodia and Chispita as a child

Alegrías De Mediodía which in English is Midday Happiness was a TV show broadcast by Canal de las Estrellas between 1980 and 1982. It is a TV show aimed at a young audience, set in Mexico.

The format was child comedy, starring new children with talent that is still in the Mexican media. This was the first time Lucero starred on television.

Chispita (Little Spark) is a Mexican telenovela produced by Valentín Pimstein for Televisa in 1982. It’s an original story by Abel Santa Cruz, the telenovela is a remake of the 1979 Argentinean telenovela Andrea Celeste.

Lucero starred as the child protagonist, Angélica Aragón and Enrique Lizalde starred as adult protagonists, Usi Velasco starred as co-protagonist, Alma Delfina and Leonardo Daniel starred as young co-protagonists, while Renata Flores starred as the main antagonist.

2. She is the greatest winner of the TVyNovelas Awards

The Premios TVyNovelas are presented annually by Televisa and the magazine TVyNovelas to honour the best Mexican television productions, including telenovelas. Lucero starred in the leading role of nine Mexican telenovelas and has won more TVyNovelas Awards than any other actress.

3. She would multitask as a kid!

Imagine Lucero was able to multitask between her studies and her career. She combined work with academic studies, also taking singing and dancing lessons. At that time she also performed in the program Juguemos a Cantar (Let’s play to sing), in which she was the interpreter of the theme.

Following these opportunities, she received several offers in different programs, among them Chiquilladas (Childishness), making her first starring appearance in the series for children, where one of her more popular roles was in a Popeye skit as Olive Oyl.

4. Un Pedacito De Mí was her fourth album

The album was released in 1986. Lucero collaborated with the popular Mexican singer Luis Miguel with the song “Todo el Amor del Mundo”, which was part of the soundtrack of the motion picture Fiebre de Amor.

It was the last album with Musart Records. To get away from the shadow of Sergio Andrade’s management, she signed with Melody Records the same year. Due to the departure of the singer to another company, Musart did not promote this album, which resulted in sales lower than her previous albums.

5. Her studio album Cuéntame sparked a lot of success for the Mexican singer

Lucero released her sixth studio album Cuéntame in 1989. The sales of the album reached gold and platinum status in Mexico. This album opened the U.S. market, Spain, and also across borders in Central America, in countries like Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama and all of South America.

The title single achieved great success, becoming a number 1 hit in Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Guatemala among other countries. The same song was included in the VH1 list “Best 100 Songs of the ’80s in Spanish”

6. She was a brand ambassador for PepsiCo

In early 2000, Lucero and singer Chayanne, a Latin pop singer and actor was employed by PepsiCo to promote Doritos and Pepsi products. They did together a TV spot and several ads that were promoted throughout the Latino community in the United States.

7. he starred in the musical adaptation of the book by Antonio Velasco Piña

The adaptation was a musical that tells another version of what happened on 2 October 1968, in Tlatelolco. Lucero decided to take this play since she rejected to participate in the telenovela Amor real.

Several months in theatres made her win an award for best actress in a musical and offered 100 performances with 100 standing ovations from the audience.

8. She became the face and spokesperson for the line of creams and Olay beauty products

Due to her popularity and credibility, Procter & Gamble invited Lucero to be the face and spokesperson for the line of creams and Olay beauty products. In this way, year after year the cosmetics company renewed its contract with the actress and singer, even getting the image of Pantene shampoo in 2011.

9. Why did Lucero file a lawsuit against the Universal Music label in 2008?

During mid-2008 there was controversy, the singer Lucero filed a lawsuit against the Universal Music label for not receiving royalties for sales of some of her albums in the last 14 years, albums recorded with Melody Records from Fonovisa, now part of Universal.

Melody Records had agreed in 1998 to pay what they owed and never paid off the debt. Lucero and the company reached an undisclosed financial agreement on the debt of the old company.

10. She was once married to Manuel Mijares

Manuel Mijares is an adult-contemporary pop singer who is billed simply as “Mijares”. He began his career at age 23 and achieved high popularity from the mid-80s to mid-90s in Hispanic America and Japan mainly.

On 17 January 1997 Lucero married singer Manuel Mijares with whom she had two children, a son José Manuel Mijares who was born on 12 November 2001 and a daughter Lucero Mijares who was born on 2 February 2005. On 4 March 2011, after 14 years of marriage, Lucero and Mijares announced their separation.
