Ciarán Hinds On His Life & Career From Belfast To ‘Belfast’, His First Oscar Nomination & The ‘Justice League’ Saga – The Actor’s Side

Ciarán Hinds

Ciarán Hinds is a face you’ll instantly recognize even if you don’t know the name, which is likely mispronounced. Nevertheless, this is an actor who knows how to pick ’em.

Among his credits are Road to Perdition, There Will Be Blood, Munich, Harry Potter, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Frozen, Miami Vice, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Game of Thrones and on and on since making his film debut in another well-known title, Excalibur. The actor who trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art also has a list of stage credits so staggering we can’t even begin to get into them here. He also made a hell of a great Julius Caesar in the HBO series Rome, but everyone probably has their favorite Ciaran performance.

And incredible as it seems, it has taken all this time for this journeyman actor to finally be nominated for an Academy Award, but it only seems appropriate that it would come for his role as the grandfather in Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast. Hinds was born in Belfast, so that helps, but he gets right to the essence of this family man opposite no less than Judi Dench, and both are up for Supporting Oscars this year.

For Hinds, it is about time, but he is thrilled to be on the list, as he tells me in today’s edition of my Deadline video series, The Actor’s Side, where we cover the waterfront of his remarkable career, all things Belfast and so much more including his thoughts on his CGI character that received new life in Zack Snyder’s Directors Cut of Justice League. It is a fascinating conversation. Check it out at the link above to get the “actor’s side” from Ciarán Hinds.
