Speaking at Liverpool Comic Con (via Fellowship of Fans), hobbit actors Elijah Wood, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, and Sean Astin paid tribute to Hill. Astin acknowledged that Hill was supposed to be joining the four of them at the event that day. He went on to say “We love him, he was intrepid, he was gruff, he was irascible.”

The microphone then turned over to Boyd, who spoke about his experience re-watching The Lord of the Rings movies with Monaghan. Reflecting on the film, Boyd had told his co-star “I don’t think anyone spoke Tolkien’s words as great as Bernard did.” He lauded the respect with which Hill treated the words, and said that Hill would “break [his] heart” when he saw him on screen.

Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies are filled with powerful characters that display deadly powers, but who is the strongest?

As a noble king, Hill had to deliver some lofty lines as The Lord of the Rings’ King Théoden. Tolkien is known for his knack with complex language, and the character of King Théoden is no exception. There is a notable grace and power with which Hill handled these lines. His co-stars, especially Boyd, remember this fantastic quality of the actor. It is touching to see the four of them come together, on a day that Hill was supposed to be a part of, and honor this legacy.

All three Lord of the Rings movies are available to watch on Max.

Even though Hill’s Lord of the Rings career was long over, his presence will live on through the franchise. In addition to playing Théoden, Hill had a number of other notable roles, including playing Captain Smith in James Cameron’s 1997 romantic epic Titanic. Hill also recently appeared in season 2 of the British television series The Responder. He is also set to appear in an upcoming horror film called The Pub. As he is remembered by his cast mates, it is clear that Hill will be greatly missed upon his passing.
