    Excellent!
Although the name sounds like a museum glorifying war, it does anything but that. While it does pay tribute to those who fought, it devotes a lot of effort to showing the effects of war on non-combatants, both those who have the misfortune of being caught near or in the middle of the fighting and those whose lives were disrupted by the war effort at home. It highlights the roles of women and minorities (mostly those from Britain's then-colonies). I thought it did a very good job of stating facts without bias. I spent three hours on just the first three floors (WW I, WW II and the Holocaust) and could have spent more.

    Different Perspective on World Wars
Especially interesting museum if you are a war buff. It was also enlightening to see this history through a different perspective as an American as it covers both World War 1 and 2. Also a very moving holocaust exhibit. So much to see and read. We reserved our tickets online the day before and attended on a Friday morning. Many school groups around but still very accessible. We spent about 3 1/2 hours here. We also viewed the special exhibit in the Troubles in Northern Ireland which was interesting but, in my opinion, too short. Be advised the Imperial War Museum and the Churchill War Rooms are different tours in very different places. The tickets are all booked through the Imperial War Museums site. The War Rooms are a fee and the Imperial War Museum London is free.

    Wonderful museum …. marvellous exhibits.
Visiting London for only a few days and certainly having a great interest in 20th Century war history meant that a visit to the IWM was mandatory. What a wonderful museum ! Magnificently laid out with marvellous exhibitions specifically WW 1 and 2. Whilst the “ holocaust “ exhibition was both haunting and even sinister with the depictions of absolute horror perpetrated against many people it is perhaps something that everyone should see, both young and old. Congratulations to all the people involved with this marvellous museum, simply a must place to visit. Highly recommended !

    Brilliant
The Museum is just amazing. Six floors of exhibition space. The entrance opens up into the famous atrium where numerous full size aircraft hang, from the iconic Spitfire to the Harrier jump jet. The Museum is packed with real full sized items not models or mock-ups. There are tanks, boats, rockets uniforms and artworks, to name just a few. Throughout the exhibition spaces audio visuals play through the day. It is not all big machines; the Museum has dedicated archive and research rooms and a massive collection of learning resources. There is a mixture of permanent displays such as the World War 1 & 2 displays, the Art and Film galleries and the Peace and Security gallery amongst others. Check the website for new limited duration exhibitions and installations. Private and guided tours can be arranged. Admission is free, donations are encouraged and there are opportunities to volunteer. The London museum is one of five imperial war museums, all linked as branches of the London HQ

    Great museum
This is one of the best museums we have ever been to. Unassuming at first but the displays lay out an outstanding understanding of World War I and Ii. Much more to see. Not extremely crowded, but book timed tickets anyway. A hidden gem. Very educational.

Full of interesting information and artefacts
We found the galleries to be well presented with fascinating artefacts. There is an enormous amount of information about both World Wars. The holocaust part is eerie and not recommended for under 14s. After about 2 hours my children had seen enough. We had a picnic in the park outside which was nice.

Good exhibit for anyone interested in the history of war
Went to the museum when visiting London as my husband loves the history of ww1. The exhibits are informative, well thought out and presented. He really enjoyed the visit, and found it interesting and informative. I did not enjoy as I found the experience upsetting, particularly the holocaust exhibit. Great for those lacking knowledge or those particularly interested in the history of war.

    Very informative
In London for the weekend to see the sights and explore the city with friends. We planned to go to Imperial War Museum before we made our journey to London. The Imperial war museum was beyond impressive and as we are from Northern Ireland , the troubles in Northern Ireland exhibition was spot on and left no detail missed. We even learned a few things about our history that we didn't know before. Staff were very helpful when I asked how to leave positive feedback. By the end of our trip ,I was only too happy to donate so they can continue their fantastic work. Very pleased!

    Great free museum
We liked the exhibits and especially the poppy flowers. Recommend the restaurant as it has daily meals. Bought two fair trade poppies for 24.00 gbp. Admission to the museum was free. Clean washrooms.

Worth it for the history we must not forget, lest we repeat it
It has the usual WW1 and WW2 exhibits but the new holocaust exhibit is powerful and very moving. Not suitable for kids or even young teens it is definitely something to experience and a powerful reminder how they were democratically elected. An important reminder these days

For history buffs interested in WW1 and WW2, this is probably one of the best museums to visit. You get transported to that time in history and the level and depth of information they provide is unsurpassed (from getting gassed to displaying uniforms of fallen soldiers to who 'knuts' were). The Witnesses To War exhibition that wraps around the central atrium (which with it's collection of aircraft and a V2 rocket is the first visual as you enter) will overpower your senses with it's depiction of machines and ordnance used in the conflicts. When school groups visit it can get raucous but that should be no reason to skip it. The museum is free to visit and donations are encouraged.

Incredible museum, would definitely recommend visiting when you’re in London! It’s rather large so I would recommend going in the morning, so you have enough time to take it all in.

I don't want to rain on everyone's parade but this museum is boring.
You won't see a rifle, a medal or a uniform. In fact the exhibitions seem to delight in war 'art'.
I was expecting a huge and amazing war memorial such as the Australian one.

I've been here many times before, but not since May 2018 until earlier this May. This 'must see' for anyone interested in history is now a 'really, really must see'. Since my last visit the IWM has totally redone its WW II galleries, and they're excellent, matching the redone WW I galleries of a few years ago. They also added a deep and moving set of galleries dedicated to the Holocaust. My family and I were very impressed with the IWM.

I could never fully express how impeccably curated this museum is. It is BEYOND impressive!!! My husband & I were silent as we walked & studied each floor. We both had lumps in our throats the moment we stepped in. This museum is such an honor to our stalwart militaries and countless families affected by such heinous unjust acts. An absolute MUST-SEE!

I visited the Imperial War Museum to see their "Spies, Lies, & Deception" exhibit. You could conceal surveillance equipment in a boom box, a lipstick tube, or a purse. The German Enigma machine used to encode and decode messages during World War II. The British never informed the Germans that codebreakers such as Alan Turing had broken their code. It was an interesting exhibit.

Very good, need longer than 2-3 hours. Amazing wealth of information. Really found it fascinating, giving a better insight into why the world wars occurred. Also harrowing following the story of the rise of Hitler and the persecution of Jews/Roma.
Minor criticism we were still in the Jewish exhibition when the museum was closing, given the gravity of the topic, it would have been helpful to have had a gentle and sensitive warning of say a 15-20 min notice of closure. We were both fully engrossed in the exhibition and to have someone bluntly waking through telling you to leave with no warning was a bit of a shock, just feel it could have been handled a little better.
However overall just as good as paid for attractions and certainly made a donation

We visited on the day of the London Marathon and it wasn’t particularly busy. This really is a great museum for free with so much to read and look at, and it was quite emotional at times hearing about what people went through. There are 5 levels which include a picnic area and gift shop. Improvements would have been the trench which from what I understand used to be a lot better than it is now, and I think more interactive areas would be nice.

I hadn't been to the IWM for many years, and this first return visit was a bit disappointing. Yes, there is plenty to see, but I had expected more. Despite its recent revamp, it makes a rather tired impression.

This museum is truly amazing.
We arrived for 10am and did not leave until 5pm. One day is not enough but we had limited time.
There is so much to see and read about.
A very moving place with lots of personal stories and personal effects on display.
The Holocaust Exhibition is a very sobering section of the museum.
I was especially moved by the postage stamps that we saw on the upper level of the museum, which depict the faces of the young service personnel who have lost their lives in the more recent conflicts.
These stamps are definitely deserving of a more prominent display position as we nearly walked straight past them had it not been for an extremely helpful and informative member of staff who pointed them out to us.
This museum is a must on a visit to London.
