Help getting to Conyngham Road Dublin 8

    Hi,

    I just stated a job in Conyngham Road Dublin 8 about 200 meters from the Phoenix Park entrance at the The Criminal Courts of Justice.

    I've had either a motorbike or car since 16 so have no clue about public transport, and there is no parking space available tomorrow, coming from the northside, only bus into town is the 27B or a longer walk to 27.

    Just looked at the train map, that seems out, so bus or, I believe I can park in the Phoenix Park. I can't see where on the map, can anyone point me to where I can park closest to the office?

    Any other options (apart from cycle etc, that will be a last resort).

    The LUAS red line will drop you to Heuston Station from Busaras or Abbey Street, a short walk from Conyngham Road - using LEAP pay-as-you-go the combined fare will be EUR 2 each way.

    Dublin Bus route 26 from Westmoreland Street runs along Conyngham Road.

    Dublin Bus route 145 from Aston Quay will drop you at Heuston Station as well.

    Would the LUAS Red Line be any good to you - get a bus into town and then transfer onto it?

    I'd suggest the 27b to Eden Quay then about a 25 min walk up the quays to the office. Suss out how full the parking nearby is on your lunch break.

    Closest place to park in the park is probably at the civil service cricket club. 10 minutes walk max from the park entrance

    Free parking around Garda HQ too, at the Infirmary Road gate. When I did jury service I was advised to park there by the court Gardai, its where they all park apparently.

    That fills up early, you're by no means guaranteed to get a parking spot there.

    Since parking on Chesterfield Ave was stopped, parking in the P Pk is a lot more limited.

    A bus into town and red luas up to Museum or Heuston stops would be by far your best bet.

    You can but you’re wasting money unnecessarily - a LEAP card saves significantly on fares.

    Thanks, had more time to look at the suggestions, it seems there is less walking with the bus. Not that I dislike walking, but it might rain and I have to carry a laptop which can get heave after a while.

    I'll pay cash this morning but can I ask about the Leap card, that's the thing people swipe getting on?

    I will be in the office 2 days a week, 2x bus in and 2 x home so 8 buses per week max, some weeks I might have zero if I get lucky with the parking.

    Is the Leap suitable for this, do you buy different value ones like phone top ups? How long are they valid for?

    You can buy a Leap Card for €15. That comprises €10 in credit and a €5 **refundable** deposit that is usable for that one last 'get me home' journey home.

    It is similar to, but not quite the same as a phone top-up, insofar as the 'money' is on the Leap Card, not in some back-end account like a phone system.

    You can top-up at Luas stops, train stations and in many convenience shops and post offices. You can top-up online, but you then need to collect the top-up to get it onto the card.

    I wouldn’t recommend that you rely on free parking, it would be very difficult around the Phoenix Park and that area. Using your Leap card should only cost €2, under the 90 minute Leap special offer. Get the 27b into town, then straight into the Luas, all for €2. I am not sure how long the Leap card is valid for, I’ve had my one for a long time. You just top it up at the shop, Mace or Centra anyway.

    Oh, you top it up, I thought you had to get a new one.

    How do you know how much you have left on it, does the machine on the bus tell you?

    I agree that parking is not a given around that area, unless you arrive very early in the day.

    If you buy a leap card, you can get it to top up automatically from a bank account once the balance on it drops to a certain amount (€10 I think). I have mine set up like this and I never have to think about it.

    Download the leap card app, scan your card on your phone and it'll tell you whats left and you can top up using that too

    I forgot to say, you can top it up at the post office too. Thanks for that info. about the app, I didn’t know that. You have to buy a new Leap card at first, then you just keep topping it up. I think the Leap card is great.

    OP here, thanks for all the replies.

    So, just after my last post @7.19 this morning, I checked the 27B schedule. Basically every 5/10 min till 7.50, then next one at 8.30!!!! Was at the stop @7.40 not sure what time it came at, but got off at 9.05….. and it didn't even go through the hospital. At Westmoreland St about 5 min later, the schedule on the stop says every 10 min IIRC .. 9.20 no sign of it and I asked my fellow bus people what the story was, someone said something must be up, got a taxi in the office 9.35. 1hr 55 min! My two car trips in was about 55-65 min. Home in 50min vs 35 for car.

    OK rant over.

    I got a Leap car during lunch. Guess I'll try the Luas next time.

    I say a 46A going to the Park, what do you think of that as an option?

    There was a serious accident overnight on the south quays which caused traffic mayhem during the morning peak this morning as the Gardai had closed the roads. Buses were completely off-schedule as a result.

    I didn't know that. There was no roads closed that I saw and the taxi went along the south quays, there in 10 min. And the 26 was coming from further south?

    Yes the 26 was coming from Merrion Square, but think this through, how do the buses get there in the first place to start an outbound trip? They would have already been out on the road doing earlier journeys on the 26.

    As per the article below there was absolute chaos earlier on the Quays, which would then have caused subsequent schedules on any bus routes using the Quays to go “belly up”, and then controllers would have to get the delayed buses and drivers back to where they physically ought to be. That takes time unfortunately and would have had knock on effects.

    46a would be no use to you op

    It goes down O'Connell St, through Phibsboro and down the NCR to get to the park. Getting a bus up the quays or the LUAS is your best bet.

    What does Google Maps tell you is the quickest way to get to your office from your house using public transport?

    Just go with that

    Or the TFI app has a journey planner, you can plug in a desired departure/arrival time and it'll give you all the options. Very useful tool.

    If you go up Infirmary Road, on Streetview or in real life, and peer in the gate there you can see the full extent of it: racks with space for about 20 bikes, I'd say. It gets the very occasional clear out of abandoned ones but there are often bikes just left parked next to it because there isn't room.

    It's been open 14 years but I still think of it as "new" too 🙂

    That's for employees only. For the great unwashed there's a partly covered bike park beside the Park gates and a handful of Sheffield stands at the bottom of Infirmary Road.

    @Billy Mays OK thanks re the 46A, like I said just seen it while waiting for the 26. Yeah google says 27b/26

    @magicbastarder I've not noticed any bikes, but I've only been in the office 3 times and in the carparks twice, I'm sure there must be a bike rack somewhere. I won't be getting a bike/scooter etc, way too dangerous IMHO
